Hi everyone. Need a little advice on the best way of fitting an engine and wiring harness. I've almost finished building my TT engine and is getting ready for dropping in the hole. I was wondering if it's easier to fit the new harness to the car or engine first? The inside of the car is completely stripped so there's no heater matrix or dashboard in the way. Any help is greatly appreciated. Stuart

Im half way through a engine out job, from what i can tell you would be better fitting it before you put the engine in, if gear box is already in, you will need to route the wire cables down to the starter motor, just be careful of catching them when putting the engine in.

Ive been told and also read that its easier to change the harness with the engine out, yet i have good access to mine with the engine in, though this might be due to not having turbos in the way.

which loom is it? if it`s the main efi loom ie the one to injectors etc it`s not hard to get through the firewall, in fact with dash out it`s a doddle.

Yes, its the main efi loom. I think the new loom is a LHD one though, there seems to be a lot of loom after the grommet. I also can't remember which angle the grommet should come through the bulk head at, if that makes any sense? Can attatch pictures if that helps?

i would imagine it to be easier to connect the loom to the engine when removed,

its a pain in the arse getting some of the conectors on,

e.g. injectors, the idle valve,

its only the blue clip that goes through the bulkhead?

hi ive done mines twice now first time it was a manual loom, but i didnt know until i connected everything up and didnt have a connection for the auto port, then took it out and replaced with a brand new right hand drive auto one from america what a difference, so now ive got a spare manual one lol..rebuilding the aircon unit was the only pain i found and my engine was in place. easy job once youve done it ironically.
