Right, waiting on a engine crane being delivered, and would like to know if i take out the A/C pump and leave it off will this affect anything else apart from weight and the obvious fact i wont have A/C, will it effect the heating for winter in anyway? also what else can i safely remove that's not necessary as a weight saving exercise? while i have the new engine here.

I find a zed an annoyingly hot place to be in the summer without it, big hot engine never blows cool air out.

Are the front seats electric?

The difference between them + manually adjustable is massive.

Heater/blower continue to work fine.

IMO. Aircon is a useless extra. Remove the fan and rad and pipes while you are there.

I dont ever use aircon even in cars with it fitted. Others of course will come along and say its "essential";)

i wish my car still had it. Like has been said, very hot in summer, especially with the black leather. Yes you can take the roof off, but not ideal for long motorway journeys. I cant say the advantages of removing it out weight the disadvantages for not having it. Personal opinion of coarse.

cheers

Well my A/C is empty, so it wouldn't work unless i get it re-gassed anyway, my last two cars have had A/C but i haven't really used it much to be honest. i did once for the misses but not for my benefit

out of interest how much more does an electric seat weigh over a manual? and how much do the deletable aircon components weight and will junking them free up any more ponies?

All wight removal will free up power.

there are several threads about with weight comparisons etc.

On big power TTs its not as significant as say weight loss on a 1.4 Corsa.

A/C compressor weights in the region of around 8 to 12 kg id imagin going by how heavy it feels ( could be way off though, but seems that much) Plus A/C condenser removed and subsequent pipe work, doubt it would make much of a difference, but would certainly make your car a tad lighter.

As for electric seats over manual seats, cant answer that one as haven't the chance to take the seats out, mine are tweed with one electric and one manual, though the misses wants me to get an electric for the passenger side for her.

Not sure if you've seen the Robo page before, but you'll find it here : http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/13202.html

Lots of how to guides on there, worth saving as a bookmark. Whilst you have the engine out its worth considering removal of EGR system, PRVR, AIV, carnob canister etc. Weight saving isn't immense, but it frees off some of the pipework in the engine bay making it look tidier and easier for fault finding in the future.

I find cars with aircon demist much faster than those with out in the winter, I personnally wouldn't buy a car without A/C its great on long journeys just to feel cool and refreshed.
