Well , I got a Series 2 PTU from the States and faffed aound fitting it yesterday ( That`s to say , I dropped the first screw I tried to fit , fitted the top two and dropped the last screw . Actually , by then I didn`t care : It`s light enough to be tight enough with two :p )

Anyway , I drove it in heavy traffic today , stopped to shop at Tesco , where the problem usually manifests itself , and , f*ck my luck , it did the same old thing : Kept cutting out because it had reached operating temp . I`m a bit p*ssed off after all that , to be honest :headvswal

Time and money wasted .

Did you say you had a crack in the temp sensor on your other thread (or was that someone else?)? If so I'd change that, especially as they arent very expensive. Unless you know someone who has conZult and can run you a test?

No , someone else , Dave . Do you mean the ECU one ? Looking at those numbered engine bay pics ( which are really useful BTW , well done , SRRAE  ) , at least it`s easy to get at :D

Yeah I did mean the ECU one, worth looking in to, but I'm no expert, maybe worth having a word with JeffTT. But I would see if anyone close by could run you a ConZult check

Cheers , Dave . I don`t know of anyone near with the Conzult . Do people phone JeffTT ? His phone must never stop ringing ! Maybe I`ll pm him :D

1) Yes people DO phone Jeff, it'll be a quicker response over PM'ing him ;)

2) Put a thread up asking if anyone in your area can help with the ConZult check, you'll be amazed

Thanks for the help , mate .

I`ll try to ring Jeff about 12:30 tonight when I`ve finished watching me Sky+ progs .

Just kidding ! :wack:

Fitted a new ECU temp sensor but still no improvement . Does anyone on here sell connectors . Mine was brittle and cracked . Maybe new ones to the PTU wouldn`t do any harm either .

clean your CAS connections, can give the same results as a dodgy PTU

I spoke with Jeff last week about an issue and suggested using two small speaker spade connectors for this.

Hi mate, you couldn't post a pic of your new PTU could you?

Oh and just to confirm, the car cuts out when warm, but does it start again then straight away or do you have to leave it for a while?

You can hardly see it , mate ! It is a Series 2 one though : all plastic apart from the bracket . The car starts first time at operating temp , but if I take my foot off the throttle , the revs drop and you get that sickening feeling as the steering suddenly gets really heavy `cause it`s stalled :headvswal lol

Ok well i think you have a boost leak mate.

It can happen that it manifests itself a wee bit worse when an engine is warm due to pipes becoming more softer with temperature in the engine.

Do a boost leak test, dunno how far Vijay is from you, but pretty sure he can help you out if he's nearby, or maybe someone could lend you a tester (with instructions)

Oh a faulty PTU that goes with a warm engine, generally will not allow the car to start until it's cooled down again.

A good test of this is to put a bag of frozen peas on the PTU after the engine cuts out, 2 mins later it should start lol

Would that not affect performance , `cause it still goes as quickly as ever ? ( I cleaned that up a bit ;) )

I`ve considered dirty PTU contacts , but then surely it would be faulty all the time ?

Anyway , Thanks Smithy , Vijay and AthonyD . Much appreciated .

Keep `em coming !

:D

Nope not always, depends on exactly which pipe it is and tbh with boost leaks, with some small ones we tend to become accustomed too as every day driving.

Deffo do a test but when the engine is warm and cold to be certain. Then let us know how you get on.

Your new PTU should have new connectors which in turn connect to your old connectors. The fault PTU's had was heat within the PTU itself, hence the new style.

Oh and even connectors being faulty anywhere would show up on an ECU check.
