Which ones did you get????? The GU10 ones I got are rubbish.....................

Had energy saving lightbulbs in my house for ages. Not entirely sure what my annual savings are as I am generally pretty frugal when it comes to energy usage. Never leave lights on. The only things that are always on in the house are the broadband hub and the fridge.

no, gu10 are two prong light fitting halogen bulbs, these are just the normal bayonet fitting low energy bulbs, they are made by philips and are classed as 20 watt but are the same as the old 100 watt bulb, you can even get 23 watt bulbs, the same as 2 60 watt bulbs, asda were selling them for £1 for 2 but had none left today

they are much better than the first low energy bulbs

well in the bedsits we hae poiund slot meters where you can see the disc going round, when the light is o with the old bulbs it whizzes round, but when a low energy bulb is in it dont even move, so there is a hooge difference

been using them for about 2 years right through the house. The only room that doesn't have them is the kitchen as they are halogen and the LED replacements look crap and won't fit in the shades. They are much better that the early ones but for some reason the bathroom one has packed in a few times it's a shorter one in an approved bathroom unit too, load of crap

Just fitted the last replacement set of energy bulbs throughout the house. All were done except the kitchen which were halogen. Found these Hi power GU10 lamps and got them http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4x-GU10-HI-POWER-LED-DAY-WHITE-ENERGY-SAVING-3-X-1W-UK_W0QQitemZ180443756572QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_HomeGarden_Lighting_Lamps_Lighting_SM?hash=item2a0349381c and are excellent.Fitted straight in same size as normal halogen GU10's They're actually brighter than the 50w halogens that were in the unit but when I worked it out they also run £37 a year cheaper ( at 5 hours a day usasge for the 4 lamps) than the halogens, life span should be at least 11 years can last 25 and run very cool putting less strain on the light circuit so a big thumbs up :cool3:

We have energy saving throughout the house....but its not even a option for us as you can only fit Energy saving bulbs in them - new style BC3 fittings. Its what they do now with all New houses.

Unfortunately BC3 fitting Energy bulbs are expensive.

Still old school light fittings in my place (it's a 70s bungalow) and swapped every last one throughout the house and most of them are the new style quick warm up ones but are a little yellow. The others glow white but take ages to warm up. I'll have to check which are which

An energy saving recommended light bulb will cost you £3-£4 compared to about 50p for a normal bulb, but will put money back into your pocket by saving you around £9 on your annual electricity bill and up to £100 over its lifetime!

£3-£4 my arse . (Tescos 4 for a £1)

wow so i have 3 rooms with them so thats a huge £27 a year i save , well worth it :detective:

Am I right in saying you can't use energy saving bulbs with dimmer switches?

as far as I know you can't.... just buy a lamp and put a really low bulb in it... lol...

sorry... you can put them in and use them but you can't use the dimmer.... look it up on google...

You can get specific energy saving bulbs if you have a dimmer switch, otherwise the bulb won't last long
