i had the car for the day today, absolutely loved it anyway i've noticed a few things that i wanted to pick your brains about before i mention it to the hubby, dont want him moaning that i broke his car.

firstly when giving it a bit of oomph over a little stretch (prob about 100 yards) i smelt exhaust fumes in side the car, not really strong but enough to smell, why would this be?

secondly never even sitting in a zx before let alone drive along in one, i can feel every bump in the road, are they like this anyway or does the suspension need replacing?

any advice will be gratefully received :D

thanks in advance

its quite common for the jubilee clips on the fuel lines to work them selves loose and start to give off a fuel smell. just check and tighten every clip, even the fiddly ones that sit right close to the fuel rails. either that or the lines have become porous.

if you have stock suspension then they could be on their way out, after market uprates shocks will be stiffer so you will feel the bumps.

either way, non of what you mentioned would be a direct result of driver error:)

Welcome!

It looks like you have 18 inch wheels an very low profile tyres there! So the lack of "cushion" in the rubber will contribute to a harsher ride and magnify any imperfections in the road surface!

As for the fumes - petrol smell has been explained; exhaust fumes may suggest a leaky gasket somewhere.
