I am having heat issues with the car and in traffic I can't stop it running to hot, if the bonnet is up it is ok. With the single turbo conversion the viscous fan is gone as is the oem radiator and electric fan. In it's place are two smaller rads and electric fans, I have just wrapped all the manifolds and intend to fit two vents in the bonnet to allow heat to escape. After doing some work this weekend I think the fans are not wired to flow the air in the correct direction for the best cooling.

 

This is the current layout of radiators

To me it seems the 1st fan sucks warm air from the engine area through the rad then the 2nd one carries on sucking warm air from the 1st rad and blowing it through the 2nd rad, not the best way for cooling?

 

Should it be like below so it draws cold air from the front and blows it across the rads and into the engine ares which can escape through a bonnet vent or the under side as no under tray?

off the top of my drunk head. the first fan is on the wrong side of the rad and it needs to be as in the secong pic:). but i am drunk. lol

 

Could be right but need to mention nothing can really be moved without major work due to pipe routing hence using fans that can blow air or suck air.

any fan either side of the rad should be sucking from the front. never blowing from the back as this will only draw warm air from the engine side:)

 

That's what I thought, so the current set up needs to be reversed?

You just wont cool the engine enough doing this, due to the radiator not being cooled from external air flow not reaching them

I thought they were wrong, I just wanted another opinion before I redo them. Took me ages to do the diagram to but didn't use fancy colours :)

ime confused with all the above little colours and drawings:rofl:..what your aiming for is getting cool air from the front of car moving the same direction as when the car is moving forward and the primary role of a radiator is heat transfare via the fins..if you have hot air from the engine bay moving across the hot rad there is zero heat transfare taking place so it will never work and temps will just keep climbing..also a fan either side of rad is a bad idea imho as the fan on the exit side will be having a negative effect by shielding the opposing fan thats pushing the air.

Just got my 1st 300zx and the fan is bolted to the end of the engine so it is always running, how easy is it to change to an electric one or would you not bother?

There have been issues with electric fan conversions. Wish i knew that before starting my electric fan conversion :smash::smash:

I am inclined to strongly disagree. I know of countless Z32s needing a new waterpump because of the viscous fan...£££.

 

A waterpump bearing has to take the load of the waterpump itself AND has the load a great big whacking fan blade on the end, which is at a considerable distance from the waterpump (relatively speaking)...it's not good. I will be converting mine, even if other owners have had no problems before.

I just bought a fat racing rad and a big Zirgo fan with adjustable temp control and Nismo low temp thermostat to try and keep it all cool. Be a few months before I can tell you if it works with my build.

i disagree, the oem nissan system works very very well indeed and rarely fails

 

people who convert to an electric fans suffer more from over heating than ones who stick with the original fan ;)

Very true, never had an issue witrh the viscous.

 

I will rewire the electric ones this weekend and let you all know how I get on.

Surely if they are electric fans - you may be able to reverse the connections to make them spin in the opposite direction. I believe most, but not all lekkie rad fans can do this - I know mine can. MAybe worth trying to get some info on the actual fans you have and google for the specs. I must admit I did not read the whole thread - so I may be way off so..... ;-))
