I just watched this episode of 'its me or the dog' the other day listed below.

Chaos did get them chopped off but even with that I think it was 30-40% dont stop humping coz they got in the habit, solution was just more exercise so that he is too tired to think about humping and then dirstract him when it looks like he's about to if I remember right

More exercise with a big dog is not the solution:nono:, it's just part of them maturing. Bacchus likes to hump his bed too, just a telling off or our shock collar works wonders;)

haha...this reminds me years ago we had a great dane, he had a humping habit and when we brought him a beanbag bed the static it generated was so strong it made our analogue TV signal fuzz out ...my mum sussed it when she came over to babysit one night :D

It is indeed a part of the maturation process for dogs. It is actually not a desire to mate but a need to "dominate" everything. He'll grow out of it sooner rather than later.
