Hi everyone, my mate was working on my car and he phoned me up and said there is loads of play in my back wheels when it is jacked up, we grabbed the wheel and 9oclock and 3 oclock and there is movement so i thought id better get the bushes changed, then we realised its rear wheel steer model and wondered if its meant to be there, please can someone shed some light on the situation. regards John

Ah wicked! but should it move when its connected to the rack? how much movement should there be?

it should not move that much atall if it is then somthing aint quite right (by some play i meant a little bit of movement)

none, if you can move it maybe a few mill each way by hand then either the inner or outer hicas bushes are goosed

the arms are not moving and neither is the rack, i think its the ball joints, can i not just do away with all this rubbish?

whats that mate? iv read a few bits. will it get through the m.o.t with the eliminator bar?

Hi Mate, my bro sent me your mobile, but i lost it, sorry didnt get back to you.

It will pass an mot with a hicas eliminator bar, it basically locks the back steering rack.

This is true but if the HICAS arms or hub bushes are shagged then there will still be movement. When I sell HICAS eliminator bars I ALWAYS advise the customer to also purchase new HICAS arms and/or outer hub bushes. This will then completely tighten up the rear end.

Not quite true. Only the TT has HICAS and fitting an eliminator kit doesn't always get rid of play either. If you're just fitting the bar which replaces the rack, then you still use the original inner and outer joints. It's these that fail. Only by fitting the complete Driftworks kit will you replace all that lot.

quick question from me :D

When you get rid of the hicas do you have to bleed all the power steering etc??
