I've been offered a good deal for p/x ing my bmw against a 89 auto zed.

What do i need to check, specific to an auto?

any tests i can do?

You can never have enough Z's

Check the oil should be a good colour with no shavings etc, auto box should change smoothly and go in to all gears with no issues, apart from that i'd say look at the buyers guide for general things to look out for or if you're concerned take someone with you from the forum if you can

Mines an auto and the zed is a brilliant auto if alls working properly.

 

Like the man says check the auto box fluid in particular, The clearer the better.

Hows the mpg willeo?

stop devaluing our auto Zeds and worry about changing that rubbish white paint you have.

Jefftt has an auto, enough said!

 

Any way, if jap look at the power light if it flashes, smooth changes, turn over drive off and drive to 70 then put over drive off and see if it changes up ok.

 

I like the auto and my plan is shift by will in the future.

got to be honest i loved my auto but after 4 gearboxes in 5 yrs i`m now having a manual conversion while i`m having an engine rebuild ,but i would prefer an auto !!

Look for the same things as a manwell and cheack/smell the gearbox oil. Should be red and not smell. If brown or smells burnt then walk away.

 

Other than that you know the drill when buying.
