A complete 1995/6 spec harness and all the ECU's???

Is that right - or is there a shortcut that I am not aware of?

Any help appreciated.

not sure you need the loom. the main ECU and the diagnostic port use the same connector throughout production

i have a series 1 ecu plugged into my series 4 car

As he says, same with mine!

so you guys have an older ecu in your newer cars - whyz dat den?

OBD2 started in 1996 due to US emmissions regulations (along with the drop in power etc).

Why do you want this on your car?

That is nice............but not worth the effort on a Zed.

Why not just run Datascan or Conzult on a CarPC?

Like 1970's computing - on a bad day. I'm a Technology Consultant - I can't have that in my car?!?!!?!?!? ;-)

older ecu fitted as newer ones don't work properly with conzult and i had some problems i wanted to fix, although from talking to Jeff recently there is a way to use conzult with latter ecus

although nissan went from 8 bit to 16 bit (whether this was a true change to OBD2 or some sort of forerunner i'm not sure) they continued to use the OBD1 connector.

OBDI was never a standard so all the software is proprietary - as in expensive and bad - or free and bad - or just BAD! OBDII is a standard and there is a pile of software out there that does very cool stuff. Hence my question.

Hmmmm what about the R33's...

Well maybe not worth the effort on your ZED - but....

I know I know :slap:

Would have thought so. But why would you anyway?

Why i'd like to do this? it's nice having PIDs & OBD-II rationality vs. OBD-I's sensing only complete failures. :headvswal

so you guys have an older ecu in your newer cars - whyz dat den?

I didn't do it I bought my car from Steve-300zx, when I quized him he said you couldn't chip the newer ECU. I will wait to be corrected though:D

  • 2 months later...

I have a (US-spec) '96 Z32 TT MT OBD2 compatible ECU + wiringloom + some of the additional sensors for sale.

If you're interested in it contact me offline.

PS: I will and can NOT give any support getting it to work....but as you are a Technology Consultant you probably won't need any ;-)

I think you might have a problem with the variable cam timing with a newer ECU. When the OBD II 16-bit ECU was introduced the VTC had already been dropped and different cam shafts used to compensate. If you put a later ECU into an early car it might stay on the "low revs" cam profile (small valve overlap) and never shift into the "high revs" profile (large valve overlap). Don't know if the program stayed the same when the ECU changed but if the VTC bit was removed you're going to lose a lot of top end power going to a 16-bit ECU.

Yeah! I think I have come to my senses - better off spending more money and less time with Emerald K3/JD or an AEM I guess. Need to get her back on the road and singing sweetly before I start messing (too much) with her brain.

Most folks are going backwards from OBDII to pre-96 ECU's so I got that one wrong.

Thanks guys.
