Want to repaint my Z. A grand master plan or just a pipe dream....not decided yet

Well, as days go by, I am seriously thinking about putting some money aside for an eventual colour change. Most likely a Nissan colour. I like the KH6 pearl white a lot. Glows nicely in the sun.

BUT, the longer I keep it, the more I fancy a change. I want something a little more crisp and/or vivid.

Body will have some very minor changes. 99-spec front bumper being the main one. The rest will be as-was except with the addition of UK spec glass.

....and, shock horror, maybe some side skirts. I only really like a few. Kaminari and Stillen being the main two. Now.....this might sound odd as I can't stand the wings west kit for the Z. It's nearly as ugly as the Veilside stuff.....BUT, I've always wanted to mod their skirts to get rid of that awful and pointless little vent in the side. The skirts themselves (minus the vent) are actually quite nice and sit just below the swage line. Mate that with a 99-front and it would work well. The 99 front has a different angle than the stock bumper on the dropsides and sits flatter on the sides than the original bumper. Because of that, the contour of the sill sections aren't quite as much of a match as they could be. So, Wings west skirts without the fieldmouse vent would work well IMO.

I did a little edit....

The colours....well....of course, Bayside blue...

Or possibly the super white pearl of the new 370Z (which I think is called Glacia pearl white). I like the Lexus pearl more, but want to keep the colours Nissan.

What bout keeping the pre 99 bumper but modding it. This has crossed my mind as my front does need a respray...

Smooth/fill away that silly 10mm wide line recessed band that runs across the top front.

Smooth out the usually grey band area that the indicators/fog's sit in. Make it all flush and nice.

Add stillen lip.

BINGO!!!

I am eyeing up that coach line and thinking the same.

I'm also looking at getting more air in for my front mount intercooler that's been in my hallway for over a year!!

If you look at the bumper from the front I believe that the position of the fog lights were a compromise. There are deffo some improvements that cane be done here.

Any ideas on adhesives and fillers?

Andy

:hurl:

Sorry mate, but I've seen that done and it looks dreadful. Plus I want absolutely NO filler anywhere near my Z!

IMO, the Z needs that line on the sides as it gets higher the further down the car it goes, giving it a little kick on the back end.

I think he means the coach line at the top (double indent) that runs from left to right.

I agree, the line that runs down the side needs to stay unless you can loose all including the rear bumper. I have seen a red car with this done and am in 2 minds about it.

Oh bugger, I just agreed with Funkysi on something.

Si, having read most of your replies to various threads and also your own threads i cannot believe that having a different coloured engine bay to the rest of the car wouldn't annoy you.

But if you do go that way no skirts please:slap: and bayside blue:cool:

Who said anything about leaving the engine bay the same colour as it was?

i think your wheels will match a blue car along with the rear lights and side indicators etc .. quite nicely........ are you leaning more towards the thought of blue yet??

My Z is pearl white and not too impressed as it's basically a dirty white (yes, it's washed and clean and shiney!).

Personally I would go for Ferrari blood red. The best colour for a Z in my opinion (or for any real sports car).

Yellow is nice too. Not may cars look gr8 in yellow, the Diablo being one of them. The colour for a true exotic.

Old KH6 pearl does fade over time and gives a tabacco stained look to it. Fresh KH6 is completely different.

Yeah, pretty much. This will all be a long way off though.

Sorry Si i thought you would have due to the cost!

My z was black when i purchased it back in 2002 and it cost me £1500 to repaint then [inc the boot/door shuts] i asked them what would be the cost to do under the bonnet, and they said with engine out 2k

Just thought that the money spent removing the engine and ancillaries usually could be spent elsewhere.

you know i was going to say only 2 cars look good in bayside blue. then nick goes and puts up a bayside zed:slap: but i'm thinking wow that looks so cool on a zed, if not i think zeds best colours are red:p and yellow IMHO

Narrrr, I'd do it in 2 stages if I went for Glacier white pearl. I'd have the shuts all done and the engine bay at a different time, but with bayside blue, I'd have the lot done.

BUT, you can strip enough of the engine bay away without having to take the engine out to paint the inner wings, front area and bulkhead.

Kudos to that man. Mine was resprayed in Ferrari Rossa Formula (F1 car colour) and in my opinion looks lovely.

Quite like red, but want something that glows a little. Metallic and pearl finishes look very alluring in the sunlight. :)

Here, I did this of your car. Can you spot the difference? Something that makes it look really really nice over before?? :)

i like that silver/white colour. The blue looks nice but the other colour has the edge IMO. Sides skirts well, not for me as it might look to far from stock.

I would go for the bayside colour and finished off with the Stillen kit.

But im not to keen on the stillen rear i think it looks odd:mac1:

Si I’d definitely plunge for the Bayside blue looks Superb but i'd say the Glacier pearl white (if that’s the name) is not far behind !!! the pic you posted of the 370 in the sun is outstanding and reflects what you're looking for from a pearl paint well i reckon, as regards kits etc i'd either leave the front as is but with the stillen lip or....... get the kaminari Kit ;)

Keep the colour matey. When you dropped me to the station that day jimmer took my car, how many people looked at your car? I remembered it as it was yesterday.... almost every driver turned their head to take a look. You do not get that from a "normal" 300, do you! Keep her the same Si, she looks good, damn good buddy.

That's my thought as well. And forget the side skirts too; the car looks best without them IMO. As for the front I like the 99-spec best of all; but I do like the Stillen extension you posted earlier - I reckon I'd do that;)

Your's is one of my all time favourite ZXs; leave it alone!!!

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
