Guys

Any opinions on who makes nice seats either leather or black cloth buckets for the ZED. I was thinking of Recaros but do they fit?

Also where can I take the car to have the interior done? I would like new seats, carpets, the rear seats taken out and all the door trims and dash etc re covered. I would also like a nice Audio set up put in etc. Do you have to get it done in different places or do certain companies specialise in doing the whole lot?.

Or if you are mad enough is it something you can do yourself with getting bits and pieces done?.

I would expect most Recaros to fit as we have fitted them to smaller early Z's for years, I would be inclined to find ones already covered in the leather colour of coice as getting any seat retrimmed usualy costs much more than seats already in leather, I am sometimes astonished to see retrims that cost over £1.5K with dodgy stitching, so I much prefer a better quality factory finish.

I think due to the relatively generous size of a Z32 most sports car seat would fit. The choice will be down to you.

Personally I do not like the look of the standard seats I think they are only slightly better looking than a Supra seat....;-)

Then you can get the rears trimmed to match which will be much cheaper than doing a front seat, and as for the armrest lower dash bits etc (all the tweed bits on an early car) you could cover these areas yourself if you are feeling adventurous, I get the armrest double stitched though, and I would not spend more that £1K on the whole interior including new seats that should set you back about £500 for a mint pair of Recaros in leather.

Remember Recaro make the best car seats, (Most aeroplane seats are also recaro) so they are a good start.

Seats Galore isn't too far from you. As far as custom trimming, they are excellent!

Are they the ones that did yours Si ?

Nope, but I have used them before to replace the hood on my previous car. I've also seen their interior work which was very good. The company that retrimmed my panel work were Krych trimmers in Bristol.

Thanks si I will check them out. These are the seats I want and I called and was told that Recaro dont make the frame for any of there seats to fit in a Zed?? How do people get around it?

Custom made subframes would be the way to go. Might give you a bit a of grief if you come to sell the car to someone taller or shorter than you, unless the seats have sliders.

i sold a set of recaros with subframes to turboboy they fitted in a zed fine and look lurvely

I help out at an MX5 specialists in my spare time. We get seats and interior bits fully reupholstered on a regular basis by a chap called Paul Bishop, in Owslebury (Nr Winchester).

Having seen his work compared to others, he's easily the best...by a wide margin too. PM me if you want his contact info.

The trick is to remove the subframe or sliders from the Z seats and adapt them to suit a seat of your choice, that way you have the functionality of the Z adjustment controls on your new seats, on the older Z you would just make up offset plates that would make the 4 bolt connectors line up with the new seat fixings, you might be able to source some manual Z32 subframes which should make life easier. Best thing to do is take one of your existing seats out and see how it fixes onto the seat.

I have a front recaros in my 300, and imo they look great!!! Black velour. Retrimmed the rear seats in the same.

They may not be the best looking seat (although I think they look OK) it's not just about appearance. You have to sit in them more than you look at them; and IMO, the OEM seat is one of the best I've sat in:bow:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

try Neil, Dardside tt on here, he does retriming at very good prices and range of colours.
