having a look at my old videos that a mate took inside the car i can see that from 20mph it took around 6-7 seconds to get to 60mph. i reckon around 8-10 from 0 - 60mph..... i never really noticed until looking at videos now.

Is the autobox able to rob power and can a boost leak effect the car to that extent?

post your thoughts :)

cheers again all for your help and support

yeah conzult showed no problems. autobox however showed errors 1 and 8.

8 is revolution speed sensor

Yup its TT but feels like NA at the moment. :(

Edited by damien

Thats quite a bit slower than a NA (which will do 0-60 in around 7.0 secs)

I think you need to get it looked at properly, a stock TT should be seeing a 0-60 in the mid to high 5's. Chances are you have more than 1 issue going on here.

Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge...if so, what does it show ? Do you have any smoke at any time or strong smells of oil or fuel ? Have you had it compression tested ?

yeah most likely... shame that the conzult showed everything was well except a dead O2 sensor.....

I still think the incorrect wastegate wiring is a problem as with the Stage 1 ECU.

either that or its the autobox slowing the car down

added a few Q's onto the end of my post , also what is the autobox like are you experiencing bad syptoms with it ?

i don't have an aftermarket boost gauge i'm afraid. When i bought it the stock gauge was stuck on 0 and did not budge. Then a friend found a small vac pipe near the back which was hissing. when he fixed it the gauge jumped straight to -7 (jap meter) the car never went past what appeared to translate as 7 PSI. I got a service done. new plugs, oil and fuel filter and oils changed. Done a balance test which was fine and no errors on conzult or self diagnostic

However when Santa looked at the car he found that it had boost jets. We removed the boost jets and got a few bits from a shop that connected the cut pipes back together. Then i noticed the car semed a bit quicker and the gauge went up slightly more however this is most likely innacurate. Santa also mentioned that the wastegates are plugged in innacurate and it probably the result of the previous onwer taking the boost controlle with him. The car did overfuel a bit however Santa helped me change jubilee clips and tighten other pipes and the car seemed to stop over fuelling. Car has never smoked and still doesnt to this day.

The autobox seemed fine, was low on fluid so i topped up to get me to zedworld however the car starts and drives fine if i dont open throttle too much. I do have flashing power sign and did a autobox test which showed errors 1 and 8. oil temperature and revolution speed sensor. And my steering get heavy after driving for 2 mins until i turn it off.

thats about all i can think off.... except a pug making me look like a fool on the A road as the car seems to stop pulling for a second when on wide open throttle

You say it drives fine if you dont open the throttle too much...what happens when you do open the throttle more ?

  • Author

well if i start at standstill and keep the foot all the way down on the throttle the car will stop pulling for a split second after about 6-7 seconds of accelerating. by this time the car is around 60 - 70 mph

if i start at 60 and accelerate hard the hard will get to about 70- 80 mph and do the same but seems gutless

if i drive without giving it welly or ease of the accelerator a bit when i get to 60 then it wont buck.it seems to only do it if i have the throttle down all the way after so many seconds.

if i keep throttle down and let it do its buck Once it has done its quick buck it will continue to pull again for so many seconds.

the thing is at higher speeds the car seems ok if i use pedal lightly.. i cannot get the car to go above 80. i have gotten to 100 before simply buy taking my time to get there and i mean using as little throttle as possible. It just seems the quicker i go the less guts it gets.we thought it was boost escaping because the boost gauge drops but he said it feels more like engine

Hopefully santa can provide more detail of his experiance when he was in it..

Damo calling santa.. come in santa!

sounds like your over boosting to me, get an accurate guage and go for a drive and open her up, I have a feeling that when you reach near full boost on full throttle you will start to hear thar detonating sound and your boost guage needle will falter/shake. Possibly a previous owner has upped the boost but then sold the car on with a standard ECU. A quick fix would be to reduce the boost and see if it drives better, before you spend on expensive diagnostics. Best of luck.

Its interesting that you mention that because not only did the car have boost jets but the car also had a stage 1 ECU. The car has got its wastegates connected incorrect and so now makes me wonder if it is over boosting.. The wastegates are set up incorrectly according to Santa and when we took out the boost jets the car did run a little better and a bit longer on WOT (wondering if that is because it didnt overboost as much as before) so maybe the car had an EBC taken out when i bought it and the car was not piped up properly.

It is starting to make sense with your theory of overboosting.... simply because the fact that the car ran a bit quicker with the boost jets out.

I think we are getting somewhere now..:dance::dance:any others agree with this theory?

shame i cant reach the pipes to reconnect however im sure jeff will :D

Ignore the 'stage'. Means absolutely nothing. What are things like your TPS reading?

  • Author

they were a tad out however Santa corrected it. my idle seemed better but the probelm under WOT still exists :(

Ignition timing was also retarded quite far but a fellow zedder help by putting it in the right timing position with a flashing timin gun. but problem was still the same

  • Author

to be honest i can't quite tell :( when i had the idle problem it did however now that that was fixed i cannot tell a difference on hot or cold.

the only time it improved was when i removed the boost jets. it seemed more responsive and accelerated much better. but no matter wether the boost jets are in or out the car has always had bugger all at top end and accelerates poorly aswell as this buckign problem under full throttle

Conzult showed everything was good and the only problem other than boost jets were wastegates piped un incorrectly. I have no idea what i am looking for but the only thing commented by anyone is regarding the wasties and boost jets.

I really wish i could provide you or anyone more info Si however i don't know what to look for and another Zed garage didn't locate the problem either. The only way to explain is if someone who does know what they are doing having a drive of or in my car.

i will try to answer as many questions as you can think of though and can alwasy start the car up to look for anything at idle if you think of something

Think you would benefit in popping it up to Jeff. It will only take you a few hours to get to his and you'll be a rewarded with a Z that's correctly boosting....or at least an official diagnosis.

yeah i have got it booked on the 26th , can't wait :hyper:

do you think it is worth having EGR removed with the plenum bypass? if so what else could be removed?

  • Author
Junk the AIVs too while you're at it.

ok i will have a look at getting them gone too.

my experience..i can poo faster! it needs someone with a decent workshop on it. i do suspect the box n boost to be the root of all this.

I havnt worked on a tt, I have an na, but ive seen them, and those turbos are a very snug fit in there.. but I would try to wind in your waste gate actuators, if theyre aftermarket items they will be threaded, not sure but the standard ones may be threaded too?

  • Author

i guess time will tell but i will be sure to post the fidings because it too me alot of strife and time to try and sort this and no one else had the same problem... SO if i post what if found it can go on to help others if thy do experience this pain in the ass
