How does this work?

If you were going to do a engine swap how does this affect the insurance?

Lets say i had a big bhp VG engine insured how would the price compare with a insurance company on a engine swap?

Is it more difficult to insure?

I am currently with Adrian Flux i am sure they would insure a engine swap but at what price who knows. It may even be cheaper as it may be classed as a kit car. Who knows.

I have no idea how insurance companies see and work with engine swaps.

Can someone shed some light on this please.

If you put a different engine in the premium will go up as it is seen as highly modified and more difficult/expensive to repair if you have an accident. They also prefer to have an engineer report or mot before it goes back on the road although not essential. They asked me for this with the single turbo conversion.

It will be a different type of engine.

Ok thanks.

Possibly expensive then.

Anyone else i can consider as well as Adrian Flux for this type of insurance? I am 25 and it is a import.

I was 26 and with flux on the NA with nitrous and everything declared (about 2 pages of A4) it was £870 fully comp. I rang them up and told them the spec of what i was building and they said my premium wouldn't change so from 3 litres up to 6.3 litres - no difference :D

Plus i still have a part complete V8 sitting in the garage and a subframe to go with it if you're interested.... ;)

More bhp per pound and much easier to tune than anything else

Mine's Jap spec buddy so probably would be cheaper if i were a UK but mine's a SWB so no chance of that

depends what engine,

if your jsut putting another VG30 in there, youd just need to notify your insurers the engine is modified.

no need to mention its a new engine (think you may have to on the log book?)

if your doing something like sticking an RB26 in there then id imagine it being a specalist insurer.

theyd probably pick a premium out a hat on the engine

the new gtr engine is it bud.

lol id like to see that :)

VQ38DETT in a Z :D

even upping boost and changing the chip can add hundreds.

On mine the wheels added about £30pa, the exhaust, and intake about £40pa but a chip and boost upgrade would have cost £300 extra. And to add insult to injury the wheels are not covered if they get nicked. The premium increase was only because the car became more nickable.

a chip and boost upgrade would have cost £300 extra.

sure in the even of a claim they would have opend up the ECU & the wastegate pipes to check :wack:

Everything down to the lug nuts was declaired on my current setup.

So swapping the engine would be a smaller spec list in a way. And probably output same kind of power but would be delivered differently and sound completly different.
