which is more cheaper to run or maintain? E36 M3 or 300ZX TT.

my mate now has a choice and is still wondering which to get, E36 m3 or 300ZX TT.

hes not bothered about the fuel or insurance or road tax costs.

which do you think will be cheaper to run and maintain as a daily driver?

i would have thought the 3.0 litre m3 would be best.

that'll be an E46 M3, and also 15 years younger than a 300zx so would expect less things to go wrong!

M3 will be cheaper although I had a gearbox go on me and they are bloody expensive (was a 330 Ci sport, which have the same box)

is that the e36 m3? 1994-2000

It's quite a lot better on fuel for starters; plus there are many many more specialists and parts suppliers from which to source repairs for the BMW.

Plus it doesn't have turbos.........

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

tough choice. I would only give up my zed for an e46 m3 i think.......but even it that it would be a tough decision.

I reckon the m3 in the long run would possibly be the better choice. But then again they have mostly been ragged for there lifespan and trying to get a good one these days is tough. the 300zx you have more a chance of buying from an enthusiast that has taken care of it and maintained it will where as people give the german engine a good beating and dont bother.

the good thing with the e46 m3 is that even ones that have taken a beating, they are still typicality fine mechanically as they were designed to be robust enough to take and drive hard on a track and still ride home confidently knowing that nothing is over heating, or breaking.

the e36 m3 on the otherhand well......

there are so many dogs around and finding a good one can be very hard as altho they are very strong cars too many owners at some point of the cars life have not bothered to do maintanance at the correct intervals like valve shims etc

vanos and gearbox (flappy pedals) are the only thing i know of that are expensive to replace and do go

I wouldn't even consider it as an important factor. All my previous Z's have cost peanuts to actually maintain, no more than any other car, but a lot less than some much newer cars I have owned. Just your regular servicing every 5k miles or so, 100% reliable.

my mate had M3 everytime he went to BMW for 10k service he was lucky to get change from £750...your friend will need to remove servicing as well if he wants to compare costs with the zed :)

Forgot to say the most expensive car I've owned to maintain was my Bmw 5 series, which cost me 1100 pound once to put it through an an Mot, mostly suspension bushes, they tend to eat them up quickly.

But thats not to say all Bmw's are costly, although part prices are on the high side, but whatever car you buy its luck of the draw.
