I don't have front fogs mate and it passed no probs. Deffo aint required as there are a lot of cars built with no front fogs :)

Also i believe HIDs are technically for off road use only however i've had em for ages with no legal issues what so ever.

Not all cars have front fogs mate - they are not a legal requirement. Only a rear fog is mandatory in the EC....

In general HIDs are legal - how come most top line Audis BMWs andMercs have them - of course OEM fitments are!

But for the retro fit market it's a little grey. If you fit an H4 converstion to an every day car then I doubt you'd get away with it. But fitting an HID kit inside a projector beam would probably go unnoticed.

Generally though, if you have adjustable headlight levelling and washing, then an HID conversion would also pass muster.

I fitted a conversion to my red ZX 5 years ago and never had any MOT problems whilst it was in situ....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Front fogs are not needed but the rears are.

Yes HID's are illegal. But tbh thats one thing i dont care about as with our cars it is more for safety than style as you can see naff all.

Also most cars with projector lenses are fine as the have a sharp edge to the beam and will not dazzel oncomers if they are re-alined

I have no clue regarding insurance bud, does'nt bother me but thats just cos i don't give a sh1t about most things in this life LOL.

zeds dont have front fogs, they dont have a seperate switch for them, the come on with dipped headlights so they are classed as driving lights (like what audi have now) and are legal to have and arent illegal to not have unless they are supposed to work and dont, but a lot of mot testers dont know the difference

All Import Z's have Front Fog lights. UK Z's dont have front fog lights.

Sounds like your thinking of the Front Sidelights, which all cars must have by law.

Dave, if you have an Import you will need to relocate your sidelights becuase they are intergrated into the Fog lights. I relocated mine to the Indicator position, which I presonally feel also looks better as your side lights are further apart making the car look even wider at night :)

Technically Aftermarket fitted HID's are illegal.

The law is there becuase of the glare you get from fitting HID lights in standard non-projector style headlights. This is why they require automatic self adjusting and washers. However the Z has projector style headlights so does not suffer with glare like other cars do, but unfortunately the law is to general.

You wont have any problems though, half of the forum must have HID's and pass Mot's every year. One of the best Mod's you can do to a Z, the difference is like Night and Day(pun intended).

eh?

eh?

Your foglights have fog lights and sidelights built in. So if you ditch them for foglight ducts then you will need to relocate the sidelights.

Here are mine relocated to the indicators :

attachment.php?attachmentid=49209&stc=1&d=1247577860

Normally they sit inside the foglights which your removing.

eh?

Your fog lights are your sidelights also Dave. Therefore you will have to relocate them to your indicator units as you have to have sidelights.

I have done the same as David and relocated them to the indicator housings (much harder with 99 spec front, easy for you tho). It not only allows you to keep your sidelights (which you need to do) but also it gives it a much wider more aggresive look in the dark IMO.

HTH :)

eh?

If your car is jap the side lights will be in with your fog lights. If you get the fog light ducts. You will need to move your side lights so they are in with your indicators. as side lights are a legal requirement. where as fogs are not,

also by doing this you are moving the side lights from the center of the car to the outer corners. giving the a visual look of beeing wider at night.

As dave said

Do new modified indicator units need to be bought or is there room for the sidelight inside the indicator housing?

There is room in the existing Indicator housing.

On the series 1 and series 2 models there is a blank space for an extra bulb, you just need to cut out the hole (its marked on the plastic already to show where to cut).

On the series 3> the extra space is used by corner lights, and you can replace them for the indicators very easily. Hole already there for them..etc

On the 99spec Indicators that I have there is no blank or existing space, so I drilled a hole in the bottom and shaped it out to fit the bulb holder.

There's another little job for me then. I'm not keen on the foglight/sidelight set up.

The little jobs never end you know lol. My list always seems to be endless no matter how many jobs i complete on it  :D

i took a look yesterday (while i was hammering around in my arches :D ) and the crystal clear front indicators also have a hole (with what looks like a removable or cuttable silver backing) where the side lights could be moved to.
