Hi ya

i must say the more i drive my zed the more i am falling in love with the little red beast..

lots of things i want to do but i want it all straight and right..

one of the things t do is change it to a manual.

i have found all the write ups etc etc and they are all brilliant.. but miss out the vital..

roughly how much does it cost?

for parts

and roughly people pay for labout?

cheers

just so i know what i need to save for :)

there are a few conversions for sale on here i just bought one expect to pay any think from £400 + then you have to find someone to do it don`t know the labour as a mate is doing mine ..

Or you can be brave and attempt it yourself! Not that I'd rush to do the wiring again, I cheated and got a loom from a manual in the end. Best £30 I ever spent.

i agree only use someone that knows about Z`s not worth it in the long run ..

Oopps, well i was actually referring to a couple of garages who claimed they knew Zeds :nelson::D

Some horendous pictures floating about here if you search!"

Manual conversion "kits" used to typcially fetch around 700, but more like 500 these days.

Labour wise your looking at 500-700 at most garages.

Bear in mind that the Kits are all used, and while the majority of parts are not suspect to the usual wear and tear, the clutch in particular is. Its worth investing in a new clutch at the same time which would set you back anything from 200-500, depending on what clutch you go for.

Keep the auto and have a paddle shift.

i wanted this shift at will system when i 1st got me zed. never happened thou

ive done it.

its pritty strait forward really. pedal is a bit potchy, but patience and its out.

Ant, what wiring?

i kept the auto loom. all you have to do is cut & join 2 wires in the drivers side wheel arch

I might be the latest person on here to have had this done - Beginning of June.

It cost me £500 in labour for Phil (a well know & trusted Zed mechanic) to fit the kit and has cost me £500 for a 2nd hand box, pedal, booster etc. BUT then I spent another £300/400 on brand new parts such as clutch kit, master, slave, one piece braided hose and other odds & ends - not strictly necessary, but I did it for reliability reasons.

So cost me around £1400 in total, but then I sold my autobox, shifter assembly, old master, old slave - not for much but probably clawed back around £200ish.

It does totally change the cars character - and for the better!:)

probably cheaper to buy a non runner and take the parts off??

it was easy for me as i had my manual car as a donor.

No doubt a lot cheaper to buy a non runner, but depends on personal circumstance.

I didn't have the time or effort to go this route and didn't want the garden looking like a scrappers!
