Don't think your gonna get the bargain your after, the bottom link had over 4000 views so they draw a fair bit of interest, and its been sold, top one looks ok for an easier repair and 2k less.

i wont get it off ebay, but the auctions are a lot cheaper if i can wait for the right one to come along

2003 m3's are still pulling over 15k albeit striaght ones lol

Top one needs major suspension work, probably a diff and drive shafts. Will need at least rear shocks and new alloys. "Easy repair" Even if its dont half its value to write it off (bear minimum IIRC) its 7.5k of damage, thats more than a bumper and wing!

To be honest parts can get very expensive on something like that and they are VERY difficult to sell on, as they are bad to insure after being written off and bad to repair, so people tend to bodge it and they dont drive properly...

I know when i was looking for mine (even at e36 age) anything to do with cat d or c i didnt even bother to look. (Apart from the cat d i put a deposit down on where the seller kindly "didnt know" yeh right...)

I prefer that to the Porsche you posted before, certainly would not rule out a car just because its a catD as long as I had photographic proof of what the damage was and showing stages of the repair.

never ad a prob with insurnce on write off cars, my zed was catd and didnt effect the insurance at all, ive never been asked if any cars are previousely damaged, also what ever i get will be repaired to th highest standard as i will be keeping it for a while, unless i dont like it

after driving my mates damaged X5, i wont pay top dollar for nothing, no one kew it was damaged and it drove perfect

THey dont ask, but when i called my insurance company to ask what were the implications of it being cat d, she said that they would not be able to offer insurance on it. so i said what if i dont tell you, she replied then in the event of a claim your insurance would be invalid... Just my personal experience with Adrian Flux.

if they dont ask and you havent done a hpi then how are you to know, i dont rate adrian flux at all, they sent me an unbeatable gaurentee in the post and when i said i could eat it and provided proof they more or less fooked me off and told me the gaurentee was *****cks, will never use them again and will never reccomend them to anyone, if they can do that with the letter then what will they do to a claim you may have

hi insurance companys write cars off so they know if the car is cat b/c/d or x when agreeing a premium with you if they dont mention the cars worth less why should you and when you take out the policy there agreeing to the value and will gladly take your pennies so if something did happen why should, ent you take theres, also something on v,car and repaired properly can turn out to b a right bargain if you pick a chose carefully and make sure parts are available always price the bits up before buying the car

I thought that with cat d, you can go to the local dvla inspection centre and for a small fee they will inspect it, see if the repairs are up to par and then remove it from the insurance write off list?

Essentially its just a vehicle identity check so you cant rely on this being done shows a good repair but I guess if they thought it was dangerous they would not let you drive it away.

it can never be removed from the list, any cat d will require a vic test and they wil not issue a new log book to a new owner till it has had one

i would most def go for an E46 M3 if i kept my Zed aswell. I all honesty they handle and drive alot better than many of the Zeds iv been including mine with usable power all of the time and after getting used to i can see why they set a bench mark for other performance cars. Its great to be able to drive it hard on track and drive docile home after without something breaking.

what happened to ur friends salvage one he was gonna sell to you?

bare in mind aswell with a salvage M3 parts are can be very expensive much more than if u was to be repairing an 330ci for example. for example the slam panel/bar on the inside for the front bumper is carbon fibre and alone is over 200. Bi-xenon headlights around 1k (altho you can still fit the lower spec e46 normal lights but u wouldnt want to)

Cat D is written off by the insurance company because it is uneconomical to repair.

I bought a Mondeo last year that was a CatD, it required the VIC check as do all CatD, Vehicle Identity check, as the name sugests it is just an identity check to make sure its the car you say it is, it took about 15 minutes to do, had to travel to Norwich for mine.

hi only cat c require v,i,c checks ,and once done will be written on the logbook in the special notes. A cat d or x car should come with log book and wont have anything in the special note section but beware some owners dont surreder log boks so advertise a cat d but when you change owner ship you will then get the letter for a v,i,c meaning cat c also cat c commercial vechiles dont have to have v,i,c checks ,dont ask me why just another way of the gov getting more money out of car users
