he had a rover SD1 with only 20,000 miles on the engine.

He took it out of his garage after 5 years, and starteds work on it, as everyone who knows these cars knows that its rudimentary to have a rusty one....

he took it for an MOT and it failed rotten sils underfloor e.t.c.

he searched for a another stronger less rusty shell and finally found one in wales.

so he picked it up it was a bare shell so an easy task to transport.

this thread will be updated with pics as soon as i go around again.

monday took all the brakes, gearbox, fuel tank, lines, suspension nuts bolts e.t.c. out of the old one.

today we started work at 10:00 before i came round he had already managed to put in all brakes suspension joints e.t.c. in

i had to be work at 13:30 we had a time restraint so he took all the connecting lines out the day before so all we had to do on the day was just to transplant the engine in the better shell.

al done within 2 hours.

still left to do?

fuel tank, line brakes, handbrake, heater and a lot more, were hoping to get all this done within the next 2 weeks as we want to finish this before the summer (if any) ends.

pics will be up when i go around next time maybe this sunday.

spoke with an SD1 owner last year he said something like +500 mint shells were sent to india for the civil service fleet back in the day but they never used them and eventually changed the fleet over, so many of these were being imported back to the uk...i guess these will run and run

I wish you Good luck with it, always liked these big boats.

I saw the pics at rimmerbros spares of huge warehouses full of parts in india. A lot of it back here now, looked like enough for another 25 years :D

I've had sd1's, last one was a 'take it before its scrapped' deal.

Ratty 2600s manual, had 226000 on the clock and ran really smooth. Not far off the go of a v8 + a nice sound from the carbs.

Everything worked, most of the time, just the usual saggy headlining.Never seen a car before or since with so much surface rust+ no holes.Went to a guy in wales who had 14 more...

Apparently they did. India got the Standard 2000 which was a miserable low-brow spec with a horrible 4 cyclinder engine

My favorite is charlie broomfield 26 litre tank engine SD1

Saw it at Mallory Park.

More torque on tick off than a standard zed!!!!
