Alrighty then.... got my Z back today after having my STS turbo set-up fitted :hyper:

For those that aint sure what that is their websites here:

http://www.ststurbo.com/sema_2004

We ended up going for a single turbo setup running at 0.7 boost and the results were very impressive

I have a dyno sheet here but as i aint able to scan it right now you'l have to take my word for the figures.

Before anything was done my NA was dyno'd and peaked at 192.7bhp

The dyno result after the STS conversion came out at a peak of 348.9bhp :D

Theres still a couple of things to be tweeked here and there such as an AFC to have more control over the fueling....

but once these bits are done we're hoping to see 370+bhp

Drives like a dream and im well chuffed :D

Heres a couple of dodgy quick pics to show ya..... but Darren has taken more pics of the process stage by stage...

once i get a copy of these i'l post some up if anyones interested

DSC00057.jpg

Also had a tailgate skin fitted and blended and my rear wiper removed and smoothed.....

looks loads better imo... just gota finish smoothing my rockguard and get my new wheels on then im all set for JAE :nana2:

fff.jpg

Would just like to say a HHUUUUGGGEEEEE thank you to Darren and the guys at D2 for doing such a great job and being such professionals.... top guys

A very happy Rich

The car is now awesome to drive. I had a drive yesterday the sounds to me is like a American V8 with that nice rumble to it. And it is very very fast. Well done to Darren at D2 he proved that this could be done and has made this car now unique.

Great to see the comments on here about your car 300zxy.

I gota say a Big Thank You to you Rich for being brave enough to try somthing completely new. This is a first of its kind on a Z. And our First fitment of this system on any car!.And our first project as STS dealers.

AnAnd also for listening to me in the first place and trusting me that we could do this.

The system runs the two downpipes into one then down to the rear were a it splits at the remote waste gate o/s to turbo n/s tinny pipe screamer outlet to n/s.

The turbo is air cooled. runs off oil supplied from engine under pressure then is pumped back to the engine for return.

The compressore pipe runs back to the engine and then onto the air flow meter. with dump valve up front .

The engine has no mods other than turbo fuel pressure regulator .

The fueling on the dyno run was fine right up to the full horse power figure . so no problems with injectors !

And there is in fact room for more power.

The turbo spools up a little high due to the size of the impeller section of the turbo AR of .63. we are changing this to An Ar .48 size which sould bring down the power band to a much lower lever and give us even more scope on power.

Ther is no lag at all with this mod as the N/A engine pulls as it did before and then as power builds up you just get more and more and more......

And the sound is somthing very different .

I hope that helps with some of the questions.

Regards

Daz

Few Things on here Jimmy

And Pretty much all of you Laughed at me!! Well Hasnt 300zxy shown you up now :p

Glad to see you have got the results you were looking for! Very well done to you indeed for Trying something new!

I never laugh at people trying to be different, Very boring sticking to the norm i say. Im always willing to try new things.

Im really excited to see this one day maybe.

Edited by j1mmytt

Yes mate stock injectors and stock ecu.

Just goes to show the flexibilty of these things.

Everyone at the dyno shop was gob smacked at how much power it made on its first outing with no mods.

Brilliant Z.

although i am very impressed at the effort and time put into this conversion i must agree with some of the others for them kind of figures the question would have to be why? you could have no doubt gone out for prossibly less money and bought a decent TT running more power?

then again i like to be different as well LOL

Mike

it is possible to get a tt for the kind of money we are talking about.

But this car is unique now. Has a sound like no other car. and im sure insurance wont be as bad as a tt car.

Plus having somthing different and trying different things to explore what can and cant be done is a very exciting thing to do.As this can lead to other ideas etc and move the world of car mods into somthing new?

Hats off to 300zxy for having this crazy mod done.

thanks for the input Daz :)

i knew from the start that buying a TT would have been the easier approach.... and i knew some would take that view, which is fine....

i just wanted something completely different and i had the money to do it so why not try..... otherwise im just another person driving a another TT

There is more to Tuning and modifying than Chroming bits up and shopping at Z1

thanks dude..... i like this quote! im gona nick it for my sig if thats cool

as i said it will be at JAE next month... hopefully on ramps with a mirror underneath so people can have a good look

Very nice,:cool: first saw this in the US some years back, fitted this setup to a M3,very impressive performance after they had got it all ok, a few tuning shops across the pond doing well with these conversions on all manner of vehicles.

Tony

:bow::bow:

truly amazing

ill be bying n/a zx soon ..-))

mind u if i remember well i thing i saw some pic of oldish race porsche and turbo on that car had similar set up and u could actually see the turbo hanging out at the back of the car ..(but i suppose thats because the engine is at back and so forth ,,,)

It all about being different, my set up was a bit of a crazy idea. I just wanted something unique and now it's got a MOT I can get some miles on it and iron the last few issues I have before it gets any abuse on the road. They only thing I would say is if you are going to something unusual go the whole hog and not hold back, that's what I've done!

thanks dude..... i like this quote! im gona nick it for my sig if thats cool

No worries mate!Ill chuckle to myself everytime i see it! Just hate to see everyone following the same path and doing the same things!

For your ECU why not get some Programmable management. I have been investigating into Megasquirt 2 (CLICKY1, CLICKY2, and CLICKY3) to see if it would be an achievable way to get Programmable management into my car (Although being a Daily Driver = Difficult)

With your 'different' setup perhaps this could be an affordable way forward for you then you can have it mapped perfectly for your engine. As all engines are different the Universal Chips you get are not matched per individuals engine's so this i think is the best way to get the best running performance out of the engine. (plus 1/4 price of AEM stuff from Z1...not that i have anything against Z1) Perhaps this is worth looking into :)

Nice to see something new for a change, but would think about doing using the TT injectors and getting a custom map from john dixon as it wouldn't cost that much and improve the car's reliablity and performance?

Also maybe something to think about for the future is using a HKS VPC, they eliminate the afm and use a map sensor so it may simplify the pipework to the engine?

as was said will can ALL have a T T but we dont have this car this will aways be the first Z in the county to have this mod. 300ZXY is my son and the look on he:s face when he overtook my NA on the way back from D2 was a picture just great. He took the chance and it's paid off so well done to him and Darren

That's why I converted my TT to a big single one, as far as I know it's the only one in the country.

Just a note to make this clear.

The car is running stock N/A injectors and stock map.

There is NOT problem with the fueling the stock injectors are working just fine delivering the fuel under boost.

so no need to change them or the ecu.

To look under the bonnet of the z it looks totally stock you see nothing of the beast within.

very cool in my mind.

:)

There is only so much praise and respect you can expect for doing something just becuase its different if the end result is that its not as good and costs a lot more than doing it other ways.

Personally I would of fitted a set of TT manifolds, turbos, IC's and pipework to the NA engine instead - More efficient, cheaper and still different to what everybody else does - Pretty sure nobody in the UK is currently running that setup.

However saying all that, Im pleased it seems to of worked out for you and its given you the results you wanted.

I would strongly suggest fitting TT injectors and a remap. It does'nt matter if its providing sufficient fueling now, its about reliablity , Those NA injectors are running way past 100% duty so their lifespan is severely shortened.

I helped build and drove a Single Turbo Z a couple of years back. But it was'nt as big a turbo setup as yours and the car is no longer running that setup.

There is a Silvia running around that I was also involved with thats running a very large single turbo on a VG (from a Z32), utilizing the intake manifolds from Nisan Cima VG30DET.

As far as I know yours will be the first big Turbo Single in the country in a Z32, and Im really looking forward to the finished result.

First of all congratulations for doing something a little bit different!

Secondly, have you wound up the fuel pressure to get that HP output on N/A injectors? I'm confused because 'everyone' ;) says 270cc injectors are good for approx 280hp @ the crank, 370cc are good for 390hp etc

Anyway, just sort the teething troubles out and it will be a decent setup.

Regards,

Rob.

i hope you dont mind me responding to these questions 300zxy.

The only mod we did was fit turbo fuel pressure regulator and damper.

the rest is stock.

so these stock injectors and ecu easy making 349hp no problem with some to spare

With no det issues and good fueling .

And they wont be unreliable either in twenty five years iv never seen a set of injectors worn out on a z !

The NA and TT fuel pressure regulator and dampner are the same !!

Is there a AF ratio printout with this dyno run , and checked duty cycle on Conzult ?

Not that i need to explaine.

We fitted to turbo pressure regulator and damper as a matter of course as the units fitted to the n/a had never had possitive pressure on them and i didnt want to risk the fuel pressure not to rising correctly in relationship with the charge pressure.!! As im sure you know this is important :)

yes there is an A F ratio print out on this dyno run and its fine on boost

plus the duty on the injectors is fine also.

Why are you looking for faults in this set up?

Its fitted. it works briliant. 3000zxy brave enough to try somthing never done before. The idea of this system is you dont always need lots of other mods. And thats been proven.

Again well done Rich

I don't think it's fair to say anyone is looking for Faults Daz.

Everyone am sure and me included admires what has been acheived here and the balls this guy has shown in going for such a modification.

All that is being pointed out is that these piddly sized injectors, like any others, do have a maximum they can flow to sustain a certain BHP.

You've increased this guys power by something like a whopping 80%.

They will flow what they will flow and that is it.

So alls that is being said is that in this particular area of fueling, the power acheived cannot be sustained with injectors that cannot match the BHP, the mathematics dictate this and nothing else. However that said, if your happy and you are the mechanic, then stick by your guns and prove everyone wrong :)

A fantastic job has been done here no question ;)

On a side note and something i never usually comment about, BUT, you do get business from this site, you also get your name and company reccommended numerous times, i personally think given that and after all this time, it would be nice if you supported the community by subscribing at least.

Good luck and look forward to seeing more from this car ;)

Thanks smithy.

I will subscribe to the site.

I am in the trade. And have been doing Z's since the eighties which is a long time.

So i do know a little bit about these cars lol.

Thats why i defend stuff somtimes.
