Hi all,

Am currently looking for a TT and have found one at a nice price however seller says the Turbos are 'smoking' two questions really;

1. Is it a big job to replace a pair of turbos?

2.(More importanlty) Does this mean the car has been thrashed ?

Thanks in advance!

Jake

Depends what colour smoke. Black/oily smoke is a sign that the turbo seals could have gone. If so then it's normally an engine out job. Unless it's going for stupid money it would be best to walk away.

ah ok mate thanks for that, its a manual tt for £2k but if it means that big a job I think I'll keep looking! :)

about 2k for a turbo jobbie inc parts

depends on what turbos you go for,

second hand working ones, (risk) say 300 quid for 2.

then about 300 for the engine out & fitt.

if your going brand new ones, or uprated ones thats expensive yea.

it should be worth around a grand not 2k, i sold mine for 2k with a knacked engine but was worth a lot more than that with the kit wheels and so on that it had, so unless it is a very stunning clean zed or well modded, i wouldnt pay more than a grand for it

When mine WAS for sale I asked £2200 with no faults at all and could shift the bloody thing. Now I aint selling folk are thinking about spending the same kind of money on a fooked car? Steer clear mate and buy a car off this site. IMO. its always best to spend a bit more on a better car. Spend a few days reading past posts on here and you will see exactly what I mean. :cool:

Depends on the rest of the car really... I paid £800 for mine (UK manual TT) which was a good price, it needs one turbo on it but I have the spares and am doing the repairs myself so should end up a cheap car for me. If you have that sort of money at your disposal then hold out and find a perfect runner for 2k.

thanks for all the replies, think im gonna follow your advice and do the sensible thing!

Now im just worried about that sticky thread talking about the throttle getting stuck down!

P.S. Anyone know of anywhere other than pistonheads, here and autotrader to search? I'm just after a stock TT really.
