On two occasions when the Z tried to accelerate on the ice track one wheel was spinning.

I thought all Z`s had slippers.

If the diff was knackered then that would explain why a manual twin turbo was available for £1500. Or am I completely wrong here?

It's only a viscous unit, not a 2way clutchpack lol don't expect too much from it.

Were talking about a viscous LSD and ICE in a rwd car, results were typical.

Yeh, its cheap, but It wasn't the cheapest fully working road legal TT I've seen going, neither was it top condition.

they where talking about 4 wheel steering.........clarkson said to hammond same as yours.......thats wrong isnt it? 300zx isnt 4 wheel steering?

Search HICAS ;)

Kind of. Has RWD steering (HICAS) , but not in the same sense as those cars do.

My hicas has been removed so thats alot better safer now:D!

researched in more depth anyways tho! cheers

But bear in mind the rear wheels only turn something daft like 1 degree - but at 60mph + 1 degree is a lot!

In theory HICAS is safer, it just never caught on because it feels weird to the driver and the old hydraulic systems were a bit slow. Mines been removed, but that's because I do a bit of drifting:cool:...if it was my road car I woulda left it on......Love the turning circle at slow speeds, and the extra stability at high ones! and yes it most certainly is 4 wheel steer! Lol....honda preludes also have 4 wheel steer.

Preludes and Z32s use a completely different system and are designed for different functions.

You also would also have gained nothing from low speed maneuvers with Nissan's HICAS as it's purely a cornering/primitive form of stability aid. IIRC, it only works upwards of 60kph.

I never said they were the same. Also Z32's Hicas does turn with the wheels at slow speeds to reduce the turning circle for manouvering and against at hi speeds to improve stability. Have you never driven a Z32 with HICAS the turning circle at slow speeds is immense - or it was in my SWB anyways...not so much now with it removed :(!? I've got a write up on it somewhere. Also see here for slow speed operation:

No it does'nt work at slow speeds at all. Its a mid-high speed handling aid.

That video is of the hicas in diagnosics mode, using Conzult. It does not do that normally.

Dude you are talking complete cobblers!

Fishing ?

Alan........

Fishing ?

Caught a couple!

Not gonna pretend I thought I weren't right 'cos I did. Mainly 'cos it felt like it was and I've always thought that it did...wondering if the tie rods on my JDM were modified before it was imported if you's all have rubbish lock?

Didn't mean to sound like a know it all noob and I don't usually.....just really thought I was right this time! can't beleive it doesn't work at slow speeds....why not Nissan?!

Different tie rods wouldn't make an ounce of difference even if they were different. The SWB is slightly more manoeuvrable because its wheelbase is shorter and for no other reason. HICAS is no different in any model other than the system being changed from hydraulic to electronic.

The system is not designed for low speeds and certainly won't be in operation at parking speeds.

It doesn't work at slow speeds because it is NOT a parking aid, never has been and never will be.

Just had a check and its got spacing washers on the rack end of the rods...thats what I meant by modified. Please don't get into statements about the actual part not being modified just the way its mounted, most unpedantic people will of known what I meant previously...and I already agreed with you about the HICAS! my mistake!

Erh? You're being pedantic now. I merely stated that having different or modified track rod ends would not affect the HICAS or even the turning circle in anyway.
