hi all

i'm in the process of rebuilding/ replacing my turbos and was thinking of using a kit off ebay thats been recommended on here:

Item number: 320364810675

my question is this, i believe my turbos are smoking because my car is decatted, if i use a kit like this, whats to stop the same thing happening again and my turbos smoking again?

is there any uprated seals i can use or anything i can do to make sure it stops, apart from putting a standard exhaust back on???

:confused::confused::confused:

Seals are seals they are all the same. Yours may have just worn out and thats why oil is seeping through and they are smoking!

Decatting will not cause them to Break but they 'may' speed up the process of them breaking (although personally don't see how it can) but with new seals they will still last a hell of a long time so they will be fine.

Also make sure you get the 360degree thrust bearing in the kit!

If there is still alot of smoke check your PCV valves they will be the culprit although i hope you have done that already!

This one includes the 360deg bearing in the kit.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Garrett-TB02-T2-T25-360-degree-Thrust-Turbo-Rebulid-kit_W0QQitemZ250460476895QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3a509b95df&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30

Let me know how you get on as I'm about to do this myself! :D

hi

yes pcv's have been changed and made no difference.

cheers for that dave it looks just the job and as that item no i posted above doesnt include 360's looks like you have just saved me 40 quid i will get some ordered asap and try them out. seems to be the way to go, rather than sending them off for a refurb!

cheers

Not quite true.

You need to order a Stagger gap rear piston seal to prevent further smoking.

The standard type seal has just a plain end and is not as resillient to wear.

HTH :D

Yes lol, only rebuilt about 5-6 turbos now........... :D

Make sure you check the oil supply to them before firing up the engine (crank it over with fuel pump fuse out and see how much oil flows through).

:)

Oh, and if you have not already bought the kits, buy them from Mellett (do a search on here for contact/part numbers) as they are cheaper.

as i understand it its a good idea to just replace the oil lines as par for the course?

cheers again i would still be hitting it with a big stick if it wasnt for this club/ forum

'Mellett'? Who or what is that? Not a members name and the only search result is this thread!

Make sure you check the core for wear, if the end where the seal runs is worn replacing the seal wont help for long

Right I've just made a couple of phone calls....

1) Melett do not deal with the public, so they put me onto a company called SCM, who...

2) Told me that a STANDARD rebuild kit would be £85 each + Shipping, which works out at £177.70! Ermmm I don't think I'll bother with them!

Yeah that's the link I sent you :D and he's got 2 less now as well ;)

I've got two kits en-route right now, hopefully shouldn't be too long as they are on a plane already, then got to find some time to get on with them. I want to get on with them soon though, so I'll be taking photos along the way.

Hi Dave,

I get the impression they do not like dealing with the general public too but just tell them you will get them balanced afterwards. The part numbers should be on this site somewhere...

Sorry for late reply :)

like rob has mentioned, you need a step gap piston seal. Millet will stock them, you will need two one for each exhaust end shaft.

Arrived this morning....... 3 days & no customs either!!

They look good quality and are made in the US. All the parts I need including the 360 degree bearings....
