New car 'list price' question.

Does anyone actually know what 'list price' is? I read conflicting information, some sources, dealers included, have told me that list price is the value of the car plus any major factory options, whilst others have said it's that as WELL as registration, tax, delivery etc etc.

Which one is correct?

Depends on the dealer I think.

Ask for the OTR (On The Road) price for the price you'd actually pay.

List price is generally considered as the amount for the car on its own. Extras such as tax etc would be additional. As Graham says though, OTR is the easiest way to understand the total amount, but dealers do list it differently.

"Base" or "basic" price is the price of just the car without any options....

.....However "list" price refers to the manufacturer's RRP of the car as sold (ie including all the options OTR); but before any extra dealer discount.

Each optional extra also has a "list price" so the term simply means as per the manufacturer's price list!

If you go on to any manufacturer's website and build your new car, the car plus each optional extra is priced as you go - that is the list price. You then go into the dealership and haggle. Either that or the dealer has one already on the forecourt "At £xxx below list price......"

To avoid confusion, company car tax is charged in the car's "list price" which includes all added options OTR.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
