Hello.

Well as you all know i purchased my zed from stella knowing its needing a new engine anyways. today the knocking got slightly louder(harder) and i think its over fueling as it is very very strong when driving the car, so i think its time to get some help and get it into a garage for work.

Have been trying to contact JeffTT, completely understand you are busy and select the e-mails and pms you answer back to, but would be very grateful if you could check the date i asked for in the pm and get back to me so that it can be booked in and i know where i stand.

IN the meantime........does anybody have any info..companies etc that may be of help with the engine work needing carried out.....already contact jimmer, andy duff, JeffTT. Waiting reply from andy and Jeff(where i was hopignn to get it booked in)

Cheers Guys

wheres ztech? oviously not going to go there but just curious........is forged parts a good option?

i have a local garage but to be honest dont really trust putting in there for a engine re-build as there set-up doesnt look as appealing to other and i havent heard any reviews about engine work done in there.

Can't go wrong with forged pistons. Safer than stock ones if you want to run bigger turbos or higher than 'safe' levels of boost on a stock engine. But a bonus anyway. They aren't hugely expensive.

Ztech are Swindon way. Very poor reputation despite new management.

i was informed forged parts are cheaper that the nissan parts anyways.

Mainly now im just looking for expeert assistance to whats the best route to go down etc. feel like im heading toward re-build now but are all rebuild so expensive? are they warranted? power gains etc

Even without upgrading the turbos or pistons it will have a power gain over stock. You'll have good compression as you'll have new piston rings and relapped valves, so your turbos will be more responsive. Combustion will also be more efficient over an older worn engine that is holding less compression than when new.

You can expect gains from bigger or new turbos.

TBH there is a huge amount of labour and parts costs involved in rebuilding an engine. Genuine headset alone is something like 300 quid.

A typical rebuild will consist of the following.

* Engine removal and refit.

* Heads refurbished ( cleaned, refaced and valves relapped).

* Block refurbished would include bore inspection, re-hone or rebore dependant upon condition and/or choice, new pistons, new rings, new shells (after crank inspection) Could entail a new or repolished crank.

*Sundries would be things like service kits, gaskets, water pump etc.

* Labour for EVERYTHING.

* Then there's turbos should you want them. These range hugely in price.

Jimmer warranties his work.

i think i would just go for stock turbos due to the already price a re-build would cost.....with the knocking im recieve i think a full engine build would be best. Will the rebuild include to PCV valves...hoses etc like a replacment engine at zedworld?

Havent experienced having this done before.

Probably yes. They are inexpensive anyway and easier to do with the engine out.

TBH, I'd get your turbos checked. They have done 140k and if the engine is coming out, it's not always a good idea to keep using them.. Stock turbos with 360 degree bearings would be the choice then.

You can forget about just putting in new shells, the crank will be pretty fubbered by now, so would need to be reground or replaced anyway which is a complete engine dismantle.

Its best to ask Jimmer whats included but no doubt PCV's would be, its FAR more extensive than just sticking in an old engine with some new serviceable parts on it.

think i will ask him full details of the job.

Agreed, the car has been driven around for a few months with a knocking bottom end, so no doubt there will be heavy scoring to the crank journals. Certainly a replacment crank will be needed or a regrind on your current one.

but would this come in a full re-build? I think there will be alot of damage been done as its travelled a fair few hundred miles in its condition maybe even 1000 miles. Just want to get her running sweet and not wanting to blow a hole in the engine etc.

You really need to speak to Jimmer about that. But if he knows your bottom end is shagged, then I'd imagine. He may have included a re-grind. Not for me to say.

pm sent to jimmer requesting info on what the re-build includes parts used time-scale etc etc. Cheers lads.

Have any of you guys had your engines re-built...if so who buy and price?

Many have !! even got some pics of jimmers work in an old pm somewhere, Si used jimmer i think?, as said though if it's been driven around 1000mls in current con a recon eng or ur's rebuilt is best and most worthwile !

Yeah Jimmer rebuilt my engine about 3 years ago. It came over from Japan minus its boost controller. The person who removed it in Japan, didn't reconnect the wastegate solenoids and therefore, I was running unlimited boost.

Didn't know any more until the dipstick kept blowing out of the tube and sprayed oil everywhere.

Compression check was done and I was down on 2 cylinders, so had the engine taken out and rebuilt.2 x melted pistons giving blow back.

The car hasn't put a foot wrong since.

 bloomin heck Si ,did not know that was the reason you went for the rebuild , did you use forged internals and cosmetic head gaskets yourself?

bet you've never looked back since though right :D

Chris

Nup, car's been great.

LOL @ 'cosmetic'. It's Cometic. No, don't have one of these. Stock HG are good enough. Until you start going serious power. I don't ever intend to run anymore than 14psi, so just wanted a really good stock engine.

How did that "S" get in there?, nah it's just my way :wack:, never ask me to pronounce kawasaki either

I want my engine rebuilt one day !, weisco forged pistons, eagle conrods etc etc, but got the ultimate decision to make first Monster N/A or just go the whole hog and do a TT conversion (wont be a quick or easy decision though)

rest assured though after reading some posts you've made and others in the past along with comparing local prices what ever i decide it will be Jimmer that i go to

Chris

I'd always go the TT route. The money you spend getting an NA to TT performance and beyond could go toward making a MUCH quicker TT. Unless you go down the V8 route!

All very true , and all that has been spinning round in my head, near enough every time i read a related thread

Will prob look out for a cheap breaker, and buy as a whole car just for the eng. Then sell the other bits to help fund some of the parts needed, will have to save the rest for the work and any parts i've not managed to source for the conversion etc.

Jimmer would be my Choice for the Build but not sure i'd want to tackle the conversion with the new finished eng!. So gonna have to think who would do the conversion afterwards

if your looking for something a bit closer to home i use james at jn developments, he certainly knows his stuff does all the work on mine and has worked on quite a few other zeds. he rebuilt mine a few years back just replaced all the damaged parts nothing fancy or that but is more than capable of going down that route if thats what you were after
