While doing my engine rebuild i noticed that the knock sensor and loom looked as though they had seen better days. I asked in the wanted section if anyone had one, but 300 zedx thinks that if you have a chipped ecu this would cancel out the knock sensor safety mode meaning that i wouldn't need one?

Does anyone know before i look to get one please.

Thanks,

Ant

Yeah tell me about it, $161 or second hand for $75. I have seen them on ebay for £35, might be a bit risky though.

Zedx probably means, if you are running an EBC with a chipped ECU then the knock sensor wont kick it into safety boost due to the EBC solinoid controling boost, not the stock actuator solanoids.

Depends on the Chip, if it still has built in Safety Maps then it will still retard timing and richen the fuel mixture. An EBC will only prevent it from limiting boost.

If you dont want to replace it then best to bypass it with a 1MOhm Resistor.

I've got a apexi avc-r and my rebuild is consisting of forged pistons and rods and gt28r tubs and 740cc injectors. Even with this setup from what i'm reading i will still need one or can bypass it.

Sorry for sounding dum on this, just thought a knock sensor was always a must.

Cheers,

So should i not put one in at all? My present one is completely shagged, so won't be refitted, would have to get a new.

Just tried ordering a second hand one from Z1 but are out of stock.

Not sure weather to go for the one off ebay or just buy a new one from Z1?

If you dont know what det sounds like then its some insurance. As legrath correctly stated some chips can have knock maps and will run these when knock is detected. They will also retard timing and enrich fuelling to combat the detonation. Is it the loom or sensor your after?

I can sort a sensor out for you.Have you checked the loom for continuity? Only one wire reaches the sensor. The other is a shielding wire and coils around the other to stop interference. If the plug is shot i could sort one of those also.

The wire did look a mess and would feel safer to replace both. If you could get me a knock sensor that would be great.

I have another order coming from Z1 so i've included the sub harness just trying to cancel the knock sensor.

Thanks Jimmer.
