Hello all, new to forum and looking for a 300zx. Advice would be helpful.

Hi all.

I currently drive a Celica ST202 (Gen 6) and before that had a ST185 (Gen 5 GT4) and am after something different and have fell in love with 300zxs.

Been looking around pistonheads etc and seem to find myself drawn to fairladys. What is the difference with these and non fairladys? Also what is SWB? Basically im just after a guide to the different models and special editions etc.

All advice gratefully received. If I had to say what I was after then id have to say a manual, UK preferable and non turbo. But could be persuaded :)

Targa's were available throughout entire production on the LWB, and pretty much 99% of Z's out there are Targa.

Its only the SWB (2 seater) that Slicktop (non-targa) was an option but the slicktop is a rare version.

From 1996 onwards the SWB became slicktop only, but very few numbers were produced in later years.

the reason i went for mine was: it was a uk car, for me being 20 when i brought her uk car was cheaper by £1200 on insurance than a jap car. Non turbos are more reilable ive been told and cheaper to buy and run.

So all UK cars are turbos yes?

So im presuming a JDM non turbo will be cheaper to insure than a UK turbo?

Yep all UK's are TT mate ;)

People get awfully worried about insurance on a Jap car, but just think how many people here own Jap zeds - alot more than UK owners no doubt, so it can't be that hard ;)

Just shop around mate :)

I think the factory claimed figures were about 220-230 for the NA and 280-300 for the TT.

TT's are alot easier to get quick, cheap power out of tho. Whack an exhaust, filter, chip and an EBC on and you can easily get it upto about 350.

Cheers again. Both will be alot quicker and more powerful than my current 1.8. I really regret moving from my old 2litre turbo to this.

Ok then next question...... what roughly insurance wise do you think id be looking at for a non turbo around 92 plate? Am 25 with 4 years no claims. A rough ball park figure would do, its simply to hot to fill in confused.coms questionnaire at moment. Or maybe im just lazy lol.

I could'nt tell you personally i'm afraid - different circumstances to yourself mate.

Maybe someone else can help you tho :)

Comparison sites are worth a go tho ;)

Just did a quote for a 96 non turbo i found on pistenheads and Admiral offered me £659,. Next closest was £1450 :s. I would be over the moon with £659 if its correct.

Wow put a 91 non turbo in (probabaly what il be looking at buying) and only £450 :):)

No idea why my 98 1.8 UK Celica is about £200 more like but i wont complain.

Now to find one........

Wellcome to the site bud.

I was 23 when i got my quote. All mods declared TT and jdm spec £800 and somthing. That was with Adrian Flux :)

Have you tried elephant? I am aware they are a different trading name to Admiral but for some reason always quote cheaper. Don't be scared to ring up either, you can't haggle with a computer generated price :)

Just had my premium come through on a Jap TT and it was only £478 but I have 'third party fault' collision and only 3years NCB, age 23.

Have you tried elephant? ....

:slap: I think he wants a 300ZX. I don't think you can get much horse-power out of an elephant! :mac1:

Hi,

Just bought my first Z, a 1993 non-Turbo Manual IMPORT, in pearlescent white.

Insurance was no problem, paying £632 with Admiral (5 years discount, which they gave me to match my original policy).

No leaks from the Targa.

Only collected on Monday 29/6/09 so will post an update later.
