I have got some 5 stud wheels i want to put on my zed, i know they will fit size wise but.............the hubs on my zed are different to the ones on my last car ie: the bolts dont screw to the hub there are giant nuts which screw to the hub and hold the wheels on, im sure you all know what i mean.....................question is, is there a way of fitting my wheels, hopefully that doesnt cost a bomb!

they came off my old vectra but they also been on a merc, they are 225/40/18 so i think they will fit but the stud fitiment is different to the origional zed wheels, my zed is an import but i think most of them are anyway but i can see by some of the peoples pics on here that they have the normal stud fitment on there aftermarket rims..... dunno wether i have to change the hubs or what...

The vectra uses a 5x100 fitment, while the 300zx (as do most Jap cars) use a 5x114 fitment.

Which means they will not fit. There are PCD adaptors out there with holes for a 5x114 fitnent, and then studs for a 5x100 fitment. Its not common practice to do this, but its an option depending on the width and offset of the wheels.

I imagine them to be quite narrow if they came from a vectra though and really not worth fitting. 8.5" front and 9.5" rear is the most popular aftermarket wheel width option.

Christ, I certainly would fit those. Standard Z wheels are wider and I bet the offset is wrong. They'll look really really goofy on a Z and somewhat 'bacon-slicerish'!!

You'd be better off getting UK TT wheels. No point fitting stuff just because they are aftermarket. Get the look and fit right first!

makes sense i guess. see in your pic above you have the thin bolts that go into your wheels??? mine are big huge nuts, did yours come standard like that?

I'm guessing Si has 'tuner lugs' which are thin nuts designed to fit aftermarket wheels with small bolt holes. They are an allen key type fitment so you get an internal drive tool to remove them. Saves damaging the wheels too..

no, you need a spacer like that but one that converts 5x100 into 5x114 (or 5x114.3)

I've heard of them, but no idea where from.

But then you have to take into account the wheel offsets, the offset number will be printed on the back of the wheel, usually where it bolts onto the hub.

Depending on the offset you could end up with wheels that stick out the arches, or too far inside the arches.

You would be much better off selling them and putting the money towards wheels that are a proper width and that fit properly.

whats the off set, the size of them are 225/40/18 they are quite wide and so wouldnt look odd on a zed 18 inch is plenty enough alloy is th offset the 40? if so whats this mean, or is the offset totally different then?

225/40/18 is the tyre size, which is ok for the front of a Z but very narrow for aftermarket wheels on a Z - For example Stock UK rear wheels have 245 width and everyone goes wider than that when they fit new wheels, usually 265 wide.

225 is the width

40 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width

18 is the diameter of wheel

The offset is nothing to do with tyres, its to do with the wheels themselves. It will usually be printed on the inside hub of the wheel, and will be a number, possibly with "et" at the front, such as et35.

Offset is the distance between the centerline of the wheel and the hub-surface of the wheel. Different cars require different offset wheels. Too much postive offset and the wheel will sit inside the arch, too little offset and it will stick outside the arches. Offset is also depending on width.

The Adaptor will stick the wheels out of the arch further than they would normally.

Put a wanted thread up on here, and keep an eye on Ebay, Pistonheads, Driftworks and the 200sx, skyline, 350z and supra forums.

Although bear in mind some of these cars use different offsets, generally anything from 30-40 is ok, but it depends on width, if unsure just ask here first.
