AVC-R thingey's - How much and what do they do????

Chaps,

Can anyone just give me some background on the AVC-R's and what they do??? Noticed that on an earlier post someone mentioned how crap and inaccurate the Turbo boost gauge is.

How much, what do they do and who's the best person to get them from??? BOB? Johnny, Luke etc. etc.

ACV-r is a EVC - Electronic Valve controller - it basically tricks the wastegates of the turbos to opening later than they should hence creating more boost which equals more HP.

The AVC-r has a few neat little tricks to it as well but they are all based around that premise.

Pricing varies - give Johnny at GPS a call for the best UK price on Apexi goods.

I would not recommend these unless you have aftermarket solutions to increase the amount of fuel to the cylinders such as a ECU or well tuned Fuel computer as increasing the boost other wise is not recommended by myself. It can be done but is a risk imo...

A big advantage of this over boost jets or bleeders is that you can turn down the boost in the snow / rain and avoid any encounters with ditchs / lamp posts / Old people etc.

Derrrr, Cheers Nico, Mr. Thickey here thought that they just give you a display of what is going on as opposed to actually doing something performance wise.

I'll wait 'till I get my motor back b4 I decide what to do to it. Need to see if it runs OK after engine rebuild...hope so!

Tim,

I have just had an Apexi controller put in and it has a display which shows rpm, boost etc. I havn't exatly uses it as yet as I've got to upgrade the ecu.

Hi Timmy,

Have paid about £314 inc shipping (that's pounds not dollars) for mine from Xpressmotorsports in the states. When or if it turns up I will let you guys know how much I get stung by customs, but it is still a good price.

I hear that Apex have put up the price of their products and I have seen some avcr's around $499+ so you might need to be quick may be some hot deals still around.

For people that have AVCR's does everyone hook upto the RPM or has anyone tried out the injector duty cycle connector?

Would like to see what my injector is doing.

As for fitting, SE charge a flat rate of £150 to fit and setup, dunno if that's a good price or not really.

Have fun . .

Eddie,

mine's hooked into the RPM sensor instead of the Injector duty. I can't remember why its done like that, as Bob fitted it for me.

Timmy,

it displays up to 4 'channels' of data (from a possible 6): boost, rpm, speed (km/h), solenoid duty, throttle % and injector duty (will only work if connected to the injector sensor- as above).

It has 'peak hold' values of these channels. Also it can plot graphs of up to for channels of info and you can record from 15 to 60 seconds of data (depending on how many channels are selected). You can also choose to plot any 5 of the channels on a moving display's 'X' axis- against RPM which os on the 'Y' axis. This is useful for setting the solenoid duty to get stable boost across the rev range.

Regarding the RPM/Injector wire,

the AVC-R manual states that the gear learning functions are not working when

using the injector wire.

If you want to use the full potential of the AVC-R hook it up to the RPM wire.

the avcr also lets you fine tune the boost generated ineach gear, so you can produce a much smoother boost curve if required, or have higher boost in the higher gears, and lower boost in the lower gears, to help with drivability ;)
