HELP :-( Flashing `POWER` light, 2000rpm idle

Hi Guys, My auto TT zed is revving on idle to about 2000rpm and gear change from 1st to 2nd is late?? when i turn the ignition on, the `POWER` light flashes about 5 times??? Anybody know what goin on, Thanks kind regard`s Darren.

Thanks for the help guys, will try all the diagnostics and change oil tommorow, and see if my baby works again.

That`s scary!! I know Southport is quite small, but my mate told me about a zed with yellow wheels parked down Curzon road the other day, so off i went to have a look at it, there it was swith very shiny chromed head lights, so i spent all sunday chroming my lights, Cheers for that Daz

That was me alright :D And it would of been Friday, was working on Boothroyd Unit at the SGI for the morning. Glad you likes :D

 

I got me some 99 spec inserts coming - fully chromed - am going one better LOL.

Possible connection between the two symptoms, the tps hard idle switch if a bad connection will raise the revs and the autobox ecu will see the tps fault and flash a code whilst the gearchange will be effected too.

 

Check the forward most connection on the tps by removing cleaning with WD40 or similar and recoonecting see of the revs go down, if they do leave the battery disconnected for a couple of hours to reset the gearbox ecu.

 

Try that and see how you get on, post up the results in case you need more help.

Hi Guy`s, Just a quick update on my box problems... Taken off and cleaned the TPS connector, revs seem ok now, Disconnected battery all night to reset cpu, but auto box is still very late, almost 4000rpm till it changes and changes very quick, Turn on the ignition and the `POWER` light flashes 15 times!! Oh i hope she`s not gonna be of the road for the summer :-(((( , Hope someone can help, Darren.

Does it always change gear late - i mean when its fully up to temp etc.....

 

I only ask as mine changes gear quite late, but it only does it from cold, after a couple of minutes it changes exactly when i want it to.

 

Mine is bob on and i just figured its something they do from cold - my dads S-Class does the same thing.

Hi Mate, No, it never changes late. I has just happened this week?? it is always very smooth and faultless, i changed my front bumper and chromed my headlights last weekend and then jet washed behind as it was full of straw and crap from last years woodvale rally ,so maybee i have squirted water in something?? I am just off out for a spin to do a diagnistics test, so will be in touch soon, Cheers Guys Darren.

This is strange????????? I`ve done a diagnostics test and strange things are happening ?? Firstly I`m not getting a A/T lamp to light up, to be honest i dont know where this light is ?? I`ve only had the car 7 years :-I , I have only `POWER` `O/D` & `HOLD` lights. The `Power` light just flashes 16 times?

but however I AM getting a fault code which is ; 1 long (2 seconds) 2 short (1/2 sec) 1 longish (1 second) and then 7 short (1/2 sec) flashes.

The car actually feels better and faster when driven hard as the gear change is late and quick, but this is annoying when trying to cruise, and the engine is still ticking over at 2000rpm aswell, i thought i had fixed this but obviously not. Thanks Guys.

As yours is an import it is the POWER light you watch the AT is for UK cars, the fault code is for throttle position sensor, this is the cause of the odd gear change and high idle.

 

The hard idle signal is lost, normally when about to pull away and the throttle starts to open, the hard idle switch advances the timing to prevent stalling, this also raises the revs. This is why you have a high tickover and without the hard idle reference the auto box cannot see closed throttle so has no start reference through the tps range and hence odd gearchanging, assuming all connections cables and settings are ok then it needs replacing.

Thanks agian for all the posts and much needed help guy`s,

I think i have a spare TPS on my other car , I will swap it over and see what happens, hopefully an easy cheap fix (not normal on 300`s !!!)
