just changed S1 Ptu to S2 PTU.

i have relocated it to next to the fuse box behind the passengers headlight.

i made sure all the temp senders do not hit the fan aswell.

only problem is i am so worried about it not starting or perhaps sending a stray spark near the fuel filter that i cannot bring myself to turn the key.....

wuss i know but are there any actuall dangers. and providing the S2 PTU works, should the car start first time?

its dark. will tommorrow if still stuck.

ok scenario. changed S2 PTU like others on forum said.

dash lights worked. went to turn key and the starter moter attempted to turn for a split second then everything went dead. went to take keys out and it won't give me keys. tried button. wheels are straight and not locked... battery is connected... and i am stuck in park. looked at battery again to see if it came off however both connectors are on properly.

i think maybe the PTU has shorted....... which i will not be glad about...... hoping it has not fried ECU or anything else

now i have probably killed the zed.............. need to take my mind off as i have spent all night on this car and now getting stressed

well the chances of somebody coming and trying the doors in the night are very slim, so fingers crossed you will be ok, hope you get it sorted mate

ok matey cheers for that.

i think i will just go to bed and try not to worry.

when i had to move some things about, the ptu loom connector was corroded on one pin, when i put it back together same as you, nada totally dead, all it takes is one little pin or dodgy connection, but does sound like a short.

whats the worst impact of a short?

am i highly looking at loads of cash to fork out on?

blown fuse that`s what they`re there for!

Try not to worry, i doubt the ecu is damaged prob blown ign circuit fuse.

ok well whilst i at work i will get some insulation tape. i did mention it didnt have any near the clips of the PTU but after explaing i would like to hear her just start up i was told she would be fine........

so either the second hand PTU i got from a member is faulty or i should have waited till i bought insulation tape tomorow :-(

if the PTU that i paid for did earth out will it be damaged? if so i guess i will have to put the S! PTU back in and buy another >.

Having no insulation tape n having exposed bare wires (which could cause a short) are worlds apart. provided no bare wire is touching another or the body all will be fine and a fuse will blow before a unit anyhow. Was there a spark or a flash of light?

didnt see one but bonnett was down. just recall dash lights and door lights dieing

  • Author

not that i could see but seeing as it happened after changing it, maybe something i missed. was resting next to fuse box. maybe as it is close to car metal in engine bay...............

prob just a bad connection or earth, usually something simple, it`s just a plug in extension isn`t it?

thankyou again santa for your help.

managed to sort the car out.. got key out which inturn, untripped the immobiliser (which i think was what happened) changed PTU and car would not start... santa fiddled with the plugs and found out they were a bit dodgy. a quick fiddle got the car started.

now i am going to just clean the connectors and insulate a bit more and should be good to go :-)

No worries, do yourself a favour n get some self amalgamating tape, tis great on runs of loom & redo that little bit of insulating i did.

what you mean he filled with the plugs,

the coilpack connections were loose were they?

and the battry died situation was the alarm yea?
