Right i have a strange one :(

I have had my baby stood for a while, while i have been refurbing the wheels etc.

Last time i came to start the car she fired up like aways and running sweet. Then after 15min she just cut out. no blubing or anything just off like you pulled the key out.

But the engine was really hot so i thought this might be the problem. Left it for an hour and went back to it. She fired up fine so i thought it was just a blip due to it not being run for a while.

About 3 weeks later i came to start her up again (today). bang on perfect untill about 15min again

Now she was perfect untill she was parked up. never missed a beat.

Its like a fuel cut off. but the petrol still primes like it should??

Any ideas?????

21* Ignition signal circuit The ignition signal in the primary circuit is not entered during engine cranking or running. Harness and connector

Power Transistor Unit

Taken off danny/ smithys website

Power Transistor Unit (PTU) - Series II

The PTU controls the ignition sparks to the coilpacks. Early units (Series I - with aluminium cooling fins) were prone to fail and were subject to a recall by Nissan. Symptoms of PTU failure include the engine cutting out when at operating temperature and the restarting only when the engine has cooled down somewhat. This kit includes the PTU, both wiring harnesses and fixing plate/screws for a direct swap.

This will be the 15min warm up and the hour cool down i was saying above

Now i need £175

Please tell me you're not one of these muppets that starts their car up and lets it idle for 15 minutes from cold once a week are you, thinking that you're doing some good for the car? LOL

Nope once a month :p

I have no choice at the min as i am working on it other wise i would go out for a blast.

Just wanted to make sure it was running right and get oil up to the top before i strip it down ;)

Mate, don't do it. Unless you're going to get out and drive it, leaving it to idle from cold until hot is an awful thing to do to it. Seriously. You won't really get the oil up to the top that you're hoping for.

Ive only done it twice in about 3 months. just to make sure everything is ticking over properly :)

I will get a new ptu check it out lol!!! then i will begin the strip down ;)

Leave it mate. Things are more likely to 'tick' if you start doing things like that on an old engine.
