Hiya All

Just wanted to say before i get going that I don't own a 300zx as yet

I currently own a Prelude 2.2 vtec, but can't wait to sell trade it in for

a Z. I went up to Crest Cars in High Wycombe, to see a few examples.

It was mostly a quick lesson in what to avoid when buying a car:

1.The address given for the "garage" on the website was actually the meeting place that the dealer uses - we met him there and followed him half a mile down the road to a house with a garden full of old jap cars. Hmmmm.

2. Nick spotted an oil-leak straight away coming from the left side of the engine bay

3. The boost gauge either didn't work or it was telling us the turbos had completely failed (looked to be the gauge when Nick had a ride as speedo didn't work either)

4. the dealer didn't let nick drive the car and he didn't use any gears above 3rd.

5 You seem to get a lot of black smoke for £3K these days

Needless to say Nick didn't want to buy the car! There do seem to be a few on the market so hopefully there's a bargain out there somewhere the prices seem to range from £750 - £5K

Many thanks (please cut and repost the details about crest cars as a sticky)

Nick

I had a similar experience there before I found mine-you got to kiss some frogs to find a prince (or something like that)

Hello mate, I pointed you over here on Japgirls :D

Pick of the crop from my point of view is this one: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=125935

Slicktop TT and going to be on fifth gear in a couple of weeks too if my memory isn't too bad :D

It may not be bling but it's a rare, sound car and the money left over you can afford a pair of leather seats and a some bits and bobs :)

I'm in the same position mate, the other problem I've found is the ones that look decent seem to be bl@@dy miles away as well

4. the dealer didn't let nick drive the car and he didn't use any gears above 3rd.

Somethings definatley fooked

Time to walk away

Good choice not to buy mate, there are plenty of good ones about, just take your time and view a few, if its out of the area, might be worth asking if someone can view it on here for you.

Check out the cars for sale on here, may be a better car, as it would have been cared for by an enthuiast.

If you not sure what is good and bad, post up a thread, we are here to help.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have seen TT autos for £750, and Im quite tempted to get an auto at first. I have also heard that they are tuneable up to 1.3Bar boost without damaging the engine.

Also thanks for the couple of sales up there. I should hopefully have one soon.
