is there something you can do/buy,

so you lose the orange indicator bit on the back lights?

want a clear/white bit, dont really like the orange.

is there a replacement or do you have to get the whole light?

Featured Replies

Yes, loads of threads on this. You need a bit Strip light diffuser, and you heat the lights to seperate them. Replace the orange lense with the new clear diffuser lense and put back together. Lisaf sells the clear lense already cut to size on ebay.

Its time consuming and the black sealant stuff gets everywhere and you burn your hands. I did it on my first Z and would not do it again.

It does look better than original, but its still not as nice looking as proper 99spec lights.

you can get the clear diffuser's to replace the amber lense , it does however involve heating the sealant up on the back of the light and prising it open , some have done this very well , and others errmm have not

depends how patient you are i suppose,

you can buy the genuine 99 spec's also , but there not cheap

hope this helps :)

yea dont wana spend THAT amont of money on the propper 99spec lights,

wondered how easy/what was involved in doing it.

yea i like yours!

how much potch we talking here, how long take, and how much money?

im quite good a little things like that :)

the clear plastics to replace the orange are about a tenner, heating the lights and getting them apart is the hardest, ive tried twice to do it and broke 2 sets of lights due to lack of patience.

they do look much better but i ended up buying the 99's simply because i couldnt get the originals apart, i have some of the clear plastics somewhere if you struggle to find some.

good luck with it mate

Buy new lights mate as will cost more by the time you have replaced the cooker, hair dryer, worktops, laminate, kettle and living room carpet as you will have sealer everywhere...aaahh almost forgot a hair cut too as it dont wash out...lol

I did mine and very time consuming, would not do the again.

hmm....

time consuming........

ive just done an auto>manual conversion, swapped the dash, interior, boot, suspension, boot, lights, seats,

im sure a little potch on the lights is no comparison! :D

they do look 20times nicer in white tho,

TranceManDan,

gime an email mate il take them off you, DRFT@talktalk.net

ive got a set from dannzx that i mannaged to get apart(heat gun & sore hands ) lots o sealent everywhere....just got to swap the diffuser now them put back together ...dont think it going to be easy tho! i wouldnt use you only set of lights to do this too,,eg get a spare set to take apart as it could all go tits up!!

Changed mine as well with the light difussers.

Knicked the difusser from the works toilet actually !!

Used the coloured sections as a template after I had the lights apart.

Would definately recommend a spare set of lights to work on, as it is a wee bit time consuming and very messy !

I tried the hot air-gun, the oven when the wife was at work etc

Best method I found was, boiling water.

I was fortunate enough to have the facilities at work to make up a small bath sort of thing, around 2ft long and 1ft wide and deep from old alloy cuttings.

Filled it full of boiling water, popped the lights in and they came apart no problems !! Still messy tho !

Also got rid of the bolt on fog light and incorporated it in the 2 lower reverse lights.

A before and after shot for you !

cheers guys!

just bought the clear plastics, tenner.

so soak the lights in boiling water yea. have to re-seal with er.... sealer? :smash:

then pop them from the outside > in yea.

a thin knife sounds like required aswell.

il post pics up when i get round to messing them up lol

I used good old Sikaflex to re-assemble mine.

Really hope they never ever have to come back apart !!

Alan................

I did mine with a hair dryer, just be patient, it takes time, if they dont come undone, it needs more heat.

I removed mot of the black sticky crud, when joining back together, i used black waterproof silicone . it does the job, and if i ever need to take apart again, i only need to cut the silicone.
