I've been thinking about a silver on black rear number plate for my Z as I think it might look better on a white car.

The DVLA website says they are ok on pre-1973 (I think) but there are plenty of much newer cars round here wearing them.

Any thoughts guys on legality and style choice ?

They are illegal on post 73 cars simple as that. But you could get away with it for years or you could get pulled as soon as you go out.

Aslong as you know you ARE in the wrong with them on.

HTH.

Yeah, probably cars registered in Guernsey!

I like them, but think it's taking the piss a little, my front plate takes the piss, but I guess I've been lucky! LOL

Same here, but then I have been pulled for it, but simply 'bluffed' my way out of it with the old 'The regulation states that an imported car with different size number plate holders can have the appropriate size plate fitted' and he believed me and fooked off

I just haven't been pulled in the Z yet. Not bad considering I've had the thing for 4 years! No 'you never drive it comments', cause it gets used a LOT in the summer. :)

Both my plates are show plates. Front it too small, with a border, writing at the bottom and no official markings. And the rear has a border and writing at the bottom with no official markings. Been pulled in the zed and he did'nt say a dicky bird about them. Had them on for the best part of a year now and never had a single problem :D

I will be getting one of the smaller plates like Isaac and Si's this month

(just think they look much better)

will also get a new rear plate for the back that fills the whole section

was going to use this site

think i'll keep the old one's to one side though just incase though

My old boss had a bugatti veyron (hope that is spelt right), that had silver on black plates and he said he bought the car with them on (from a dealership).

Must of got a thick cop then (nowt new there then)

It does'nt matter if people claim to of bought them like that or not - its still illegal.

However give that man a cigar if he got away with it  :duffer:
