Hi all,

my matey has always wanted a focus ST and has now bought a lovely looking one. Been in it and it feels fast.. even with 5 peeps in the car the turbo on that thing really pulls. It feels quicker than mine however i didn;t know if this was because his is manual and my 300zx is auto. I know my 300zx is still fairyl quick except for it's boost leak at higher revs however i would like to know what these things are like compared to 300zx's

anyone raced these. he is a nice chap and i have given him nothing but good comments with his car (as you do) however now he has gotten a bit cocky and demands i race him to 60 - 70 on the motorway.

i'm starting to worry that this 5 cylinder hatchback is gonna either keep up with me or worse leave me behind.

anyone had similar experience against a standard Focus St?

Probably feels quicker as they are harder revving cars with close ratio gearboxes. Z has very tall gears. Probably as quick as a Z up to a point.

I've seen off a few Focus STs though.

Wack a decent chip in and some boost jets if you're worried! LOL

i've got some boost jets in but santa inspected them and said they look dodgy (they weren't even in properly and had leaks. My car has leak at the moment (jubillee clips won;t tighten properly and get to so much before popping loose again) At the moment i can dart to 60 but if i am still using full boost with the foot down i loose pressure for a second and the tubs build up again.

I could start at 70 as i get to 90mph Very fast (until the boost leak - again)

so if he can keep up with me until 60 and my pressure goes then he will most likely beat me.

Santa helped me tighten some clips as i was getting safety boost levels however when tightening up some of the clips i get an extra | of boost on the gauge so now i have a feeling i need to find the last of the leaks.

also i have a stage 2 ecu however MJP only set it to standard settings for the mean time. i also have a front mounted intercooler.

once i find the leak how do i set up the ecu into the stage 2 settings for the intercooler? (i mean to use the most out of the new intercooler)

is there a button to switch between the two modes or is it done via pc?

Edited by damien
wasnt clear enough

Not sure what you mean by 'stage 2'. There are no real definitions for it. Are you saying you have a switchable ECU? If you haven't then you need a different chip if you're wanting to adjust the fueling.

sorry i got it wrong... hear is the specs from mr sufc who sold it on here

The car was imported from Japan Sept 2004 with 74099 kilometers on it.

I bought the car about 2 years ago.

In the time ive owned it ive done around 400 miles in it, in that time ive had a service done which includes cambelt, pulleys, tensioners, water pump and filters changed, had a hicas elimination bar fitted, had respray to stunning metallic blue (Colour found in MGs), put new alloys on it and done lots of various repairs and services.

Ive had quite a bit of work done through MJP including a consult, which after a little bit of work is now showing as nicely running (work done through mjp).

The car to the best of my knowledge is now mechanically sound and the body work / paint is lovely although despite respray there is tiny evidence of bubbling on rear arch... but i still have paint left over for whoever takes the car.

New 18" alloys put on 50 miles ago.

Other modifications it has on it are-

HKS front mount intercooler system and performance filter

HKS Super Drager CAT back single exit performance exhaust

Stage 1 uprated ECU (good for 1 bar boost)

Turbo Timer

Cross drilled and slotted front disc rotors

Immobiliser.

Mate if its not running right stop racing stuff or you will break it!

Imo RS would beat a stock Z to 60 but not to 100

Not unless its stats are wrong. Seems to be 5.8 - 6.0 secs. So the RS is slower to 60 too, but very close. They are definatly slower in the mid range speeds and top end.

No idea how the ST compares to the RS, always thought the RS was the hot version and the ST was just the "warm" version.

But Im proud to admit I know bugger all about fords :D

I don't actually race people as it is as my car is not running right... i am trying to figure out

1. what my needle should read

2. how i set my car to 1bar of boost

3. when my car is running properly, how would it comapre to ST

:D :nana2:

1. Ignor that needle, get a proper boost gauge.

2. Invest in an electronic boost controller like a pro spec 2, can get them for under £100 second hand.

3. Bear in mind your car is 15 years old and the focus is new. You should beat it but get ready to spend more money fixing your car!

Looks like the new RS is comparable to a TT Z and the ST comparable to an NA Z....at low speeds anyway,

Edited by Yowser

did you drive the focus, everything feels quick in the passenger seat, my mate took me out in his v6 vectra and i thought, fook that was fast, then i had a bit play with hi on my test track and left him standing

have a drive of the fous, also being a smaller car than the zed it wil feel faster

should beat it from a rolling start, my mate spent 10K on a new shape megane sport (225bhp) and we raced on M1, his kept up for a few seconds then mine pulled away, my zed is pretty standard under the bonnet (apart from the bling!) but is running really well.

New Rs is lighter and more powerful so it should beat a stock z all round even if its running spot on!

but add an induction kit, good exhaust, aftermarket ecu and a boost controller and the zed will stomp all over the RS :D

That is a good point. no i didn't drive however i did also have a thought of wether it would feel different in the passenger seat .

maybe i need to sit in mine as a passenger :-)

anyway i have purchased a boost controller..... now i need to find the leaks as the indicator won;t go all the way to the right and under revving (at low speed) i can hear whistling still (even after tightening the other pipes)
