I know this must come up time and time again, but,

Tonight i drove my car quite hard, I then let it cool on tickover for about 5 minutes.

About 2 hours later I started it up and whilst it was ticking over I noticed whisps of smoke from the nearside exhaust that smelt like buring oil.

I drove the car home and the smoke seemed to disappear...

Whats causing this?

What can I do to prevent this?

What damage is it causing?

Thanks guys, Dan

Could be a number of things...and it's hard to diagnose on the net. What colour is the smoke? can only really advise on getting a compression check done to rule out any blow by.
