Just been out for a blast when all of a sudden the cat light came on and the cars running felt lumpy. Is this just because the cats hot and i need to let it cool or could it be a fooked cat. The light went off quick but the running is not right. Its the left side.

Damo:cry:

Sounds like the cat has probably broken up after overheating, plugged the exhaust giving you lumpy running.

I am sure Jeff has a few cats lying about. Failing that, and it's not always advisable, remove the cats, gut them and refit...or fit cat replacement pipes. You run the risk of uncovering leaking turbo seals if you do that though. Not always, but it is a high probability.

Cat light comes on when unburnt fuel gets in to the cat, this is caused by a misfire, so your poor running issue is connected to the cat light directly.

Check all the coil packs for solid connection, and failing that check the connections to the ptu (power transister unit ) silver box with cooling fins on the left hand front of the engine, has two large connectors going to it.

That should sort it.

Thanks Jeff i will look tomorrow in the light. Wanted to see you this week to show my car aswell, hope its that mate thanks.

Yes no worries, you have that worried zed owner look already, in most cases when things go wrong they are often small little repairs.

See Saturday??

Jeff, won't a disintegrated cat cause the same problem? Just an experience I had with other cars. If the cat breaks up, you get hot spots on the exhaust system and a cat overheat light warning + poor running.

Yes quite possible, but on the balance of things its more likely bad connections, always best to check the less expensive first eh:D
