hi all i took my maf of today and the mesh filter bit at the top end of the maf had a huge hole in it does anyone know if i can replace this or do i have to replace the whole thing

Just look for mesh the same size and stick it on.

Remove the mesh, its not required. Most MAF's have at least 1 side of the mesh damaged or removed. Some people remove the mesh as a modification (not that it would actually make any noticable improvements.

The only bit that really matters is the little hot wire sensor in the middle. The mesh hopes to stop any bits of fluff that gets past the air filter from landing on the hot wire sensor. It needs clear air flow.

No, the mesh is there as a last chance filter incase the main foam / paper filter breaks up.
