My Zed is having a full car blow over with the work being done, which includes correct bumper and bootlid.

My question is, has anybody got any good ideas on what colour i should paint it? The car is mettalic black now, and i dont really want to have the door shuts etc done and would like to stick to black. So the question really is, does anybody have any sort of blacks they like on other cars, or should i do other things like flakes or and 2 tone ideas etc, anything really.

So far its going to be the original colour or high gloss black. A friend of mine thinks gloss black with a red flake would be good, but for me it would have to be a very small flake, and spred across a wide area so not to look like a chav wagon!

Pictures would be great!

what sort of money do they sell for

ill see if i can find the add,its one of only a few in oz

At work we have loads of color swatches from various paint suppliers. There are some really awesome black swatches from Glasurit, round about 80 different blacks, both solid and metallic.

There are some real nice very very fine flake blacks with a red/gold hue in them. Which looks sublime. Flake size is probably about 5 time's finer than your average auto metallic. That's what I'd go for :)

I'd get yourself round to some places and look at various colour chips.

I've wondered for a while now if a black base with fairly bright blue pearl (not flake) would look good. You could try that, then I could have a look and know whether or not to do mine the same!

Hmm sounds interesting, although i set my heart on gloss black now

Dunno if it's easy to do, but try and look at a few colour swatches as suggested by dublove.

Sounds good! Where is it you work? Ill have to have a look at wessex auto colours and the other place down the trading estate i definatly know they have swatchs, so i can have a look, and my mates able to get a fairer price as a trader

i resprayed mine in original metalic black.Wish i'd of done it in gloss black as you can polish it to a much better shine.I wash mine and it looks ok, but if i polish and wax it, it does not look much better.

BMW do a lovely Black , usualy on the X5 it flips from black to green to blue to purple but very very subtle .....carbon black its called , look at one close up , youll see what i mean

Yeh, im not a fan on the original mettalic black, although the other day i was convinced to do it that colour when i looked at it in the sun, but as you said you get a much better shince from gloss black

I went to a local scrappy/breaker today to look for some bits for my friends Impreza STI, and by pure luck on the way out i though id have a look in the oldest, most overgrown part of the place and to my suprise there was a Fairlady Z that had looked like its have a sideway incounter with a lampost (to drivers side door) on of the targs are shafted and so is the quarter, however the boot looks straight enough for my project, and it has the same spoiler i want, and has no rust at all bloke charged me £30 for it, just gotta get all the mould off!

So a sort of update on things so far:

I have bootlid ready to collect

I have contact for a TT front bumper, soon to order

To do:

Save a little more money so im not completely out of pocket! (also just seen a very nice house in need of renovation, im very interested in if the price is right)

Also blokes not ready for another 3 weeks anyway, its been a good day :D

I was going to go with metalic black when I had mine done. But the bodyshop and myself decided to go with straight black. Soooooooooooooo much better. You can see in the pic below.

Yeh it looks great, i think it gives it more of an edge, you usually see shiney mettalic bling on cars that jump 3 foot in the air! With Doggs driving them ;)

Metallic colours are always nicer than Non-metallic (which is why like 95% of car colours are metallic).......except for Black. Black always looks great in Gloss as you get a darker shade.

I prefer the Standard 300zx Gloss black to the Metallic black.

I think your thinking of Metallic flake (an aftermarket paint affect), rather than metallic paint.

Yeh i guess, some mettalic colours do look good, it all depends what colour on what car
