last things i need to do before scrap car tomorrow! (NA to TT)

:confused:right, i thaught ive done everything, but people keep advising new things!

my TT manual is being scrapped in the next couple days, and i want to make sure ive got everything off it.

incase you dont know, the engine and box is going into a NA auto.

things ive taken off/swapped:

engine & gearbox

ECU

Fuel pump

ive left the loom on the NA loom on the car.

will the fuel pump work with the NA loom? ive read a post i need to re-wire the fuel pump or something? and also the electric fan

nobody mentioned this when i enquired before, so im panacing a bit now

i dont want to scrap the shell and find out i need somehting else..

As I mentioned on your other thread you need to swap over the dash looms, the fans arnt compatable, I woould strip out everything you can, even if it's not needed on the end toucan throw it or sell it... Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it...

i agree, git everything out of the car u possibly can, could always sell it on if not required.

hmm, but changing the looms looks a bit daunting!

ive got the dash off,

i dont mind wiring the electric fan seperate, to a switch or something.

will the fuel pump work then with the NA loom at all?? or what?

No need to change the dash loom

No real need to change/alter the aux fan or wiring to it. TT version has different speed settings, but its not important. If its coming on then you already have overheating issues.

You will need the TT fuel pump ECU as well, that lives behind the N/S panel next to the rear seats.

edit : I just read the post from Lymon about wiring differences for the Fuel pump controller......I do not recall any differences on the last NA>TT conversion I did...but I check and see if I can find out anything....

Fuel pump wiring is all the same for TT and NA. You will need the TT fuel pump ECU as well, that lives behind the N/S panel next to the rear seats.

thanks a lot mate!! il have a look tonight for it, so it just plugs straight into the NA fuel pump fuse.

will the electric fan come on at a slow speed then or not at all?

thanks for help guys i wouldnt be able to do this without you! :hyper:

see my edit above about the fuel system, looking into it now...

Electric fan will still work as per normal if water temp gets too high, it just wont have seperate speeds for different temps. its also affected by wether aircon is on or not. But with a viscous equipped system in our climate the aux fan should'nt be coming on anyway, but even if it does it will still do its job fine.

Right ok...Lymon is correct . Basically if using a TT Fuel pump Controller than it needs extra wiring from the TT ECU to the Controller. Its to do with different pump speed settings. However the NA Controller works perfectly with TT fuel pump, you just need to retain NA ECU and have it remapped a a TT.

To get around this :

Use TT Fuel pump

Use NA Fuel pump Controller

Use NA ECU and have it fitted with TT chip (do not use TT ecu)

This works perfectly.

thanks legrath,

im binning the aircon, anyway.

yea i was thinking the viscus is always on to cool things, and i dont suffer with over heating issues.

i was worried about the fuel pump not working then! cant wait til car is up and running now :)

What rear end (subframe & diff) are you using ? TT or NA ?

What gearbox are you used, TT or NA ?

Are you keeping SMIC's and stock intercooler ducting ?

  • Author

im using the TT gearbox,

NA subfram & diff.

front half of TT prop, then second half of NA prop (think thats the way to connect them?)

im asuming the rear half of the NA prop is still on the car as its automatic??

Yep, thats correct - TT Manual front half and the NA rear half.

you will need to fit NA Manual speed sensor for the TT gearbox to match the NA rear end...or you can just buy the cog gear on the end seperatly. http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_40_149&products_id=1484

You've probably already noticed the lack of brackets for IC piping and TT radiator brackets. The piping is a real PITA to fit, and you will need to modiify the lower crossmember for the radiator feet.

thanks mate, so il have the rear half of the prop, even tho its a automatic?

will the car start with the TT pump, NA sensor then NA ECU??

just for me to see if the engine/wiring is correct after the swap?

i can then chip the ECU like you say. remember its an auto ECU aswel, so thats fine yea?

cheers in advance

The 90-93 NA models run the pump at 2 speeds and the TT run the pump at 3 speeds.

We recommend leaving in the NA fuel pump control unit (FPC) as there is no problem running the TT pump at 2 speeds.

As well as the fact that if running the TT FPC you’ll need to run a TT ECU that is capable of supplying signals for the three speed controller.

Then you’ll have to run an extra wire through your car from the TT ECU to the TT FPC that controls the third speed because that wire doesn’t exist in the NA body harness.

Moral of the story is upgrade your NA ECU to TT specs, and drop in a TT fuel pump. It’s less parts to buy, less work, and you’ll have enough fuel

for 700 rwhp+

could i use TT ECU, NA pump controll, and TT pump ?

Only with extra wiring..which I have no idea what is involved.

Easier to go with the NA ECU (with TT chip) which it also recommends

ok thanks,

ive just spoken to Z world, they said i need to use the TT ECU (or chip the NA ECU to TT spec)

you can use the NA controller & na pump, (as the NA fuel pump is good enough)

or its fine to use the TT ECU, and NA controller and TT pump,

as the TT pump works fine on 2 speed,

aslong as the pump is receiving a 2 speed signal (which the NA/TT controller has, and bothe the NA/TT ECU provide) itl all work.

so im told! il let you know when its all together :wack:

Even easier, you can just bypass the fuel pump ECU with a bit of wire and then you don't have to worry at all!

It is a bit noisier on idle but that's the only downside. Theoretically you may heat up the fuel slightly more but I doubt you'll ever notice it!

lol, its ok, there is a NA pump controller already in there, so dont need to do any swapping about :)
