I moved house at the beginning of the month and promptly ordered BT Broadband.

Line connected within a week and modem sent a week after. Now, I connected it all up, booted up PC and it couldn't find it. Kept refreshing network connection and eventually it found it. Took ages for it to accept the WEP key and actually lock onto the modem. But it just couldn't keep connection. Eventually after a number of days, I actually managed to get onto BB and all was well.

Last week, I went away for 4 days and just went round the house turning all the electric appliances off. Came back, fired it all up and would my broadband work? Would it hell!

All the correct lights on the modem are illuminated, the computer can see the modem which has 'excellent connectivity'. But sometimes, the connection wizard can't even see it and then suddenly it appears again. But will it connect to it? Certainly won't. The diagnostics tool on Vista is shite.

I am at a loss. Could it be my connection settings? Have no idea what they should be.

What I can't figure out is why it worked for one instance and it didn't work for another?

Currently using my 3G modem at the moment but want the broadband working again PRONTO!

Cheers

a mate of mine just went with bt and he is getting the same problem he fixes it by putting the disc in and re entering the codes that bt give you bit of a pain really as you should nt have to fix it all the time

Does he have to do that every time he boots up his PC?

Just wondering why mine suddenly worked one weekend and the next, it didn't.

nope just now and again but......

after reading you post propperly i rememberd that the last he did it the router had been unplugged so maybe if there turned off for a period of time they loose there memory ???

been with tiscali for 5 years i know they are shit but we never got charged. got a letter from them today saying they never charged us but will do so from next month. so 5 years free broadband top job

Well, it's been plugged in for a good few days now. I've reset it and reset to default and still not change.

im on bt broadband and have one of those new black bt router, and i dont have to reinstall anything when i turn it on/off. the equipment all works as it should but when it was first installed it turned off once or twice and the phone light flashed for maybe 5 mins, thats all.

The service is crap tho, and the internet slows down at night time which can become a pain logging on to this site.

Each time you are connected Check your IP address as the Modem might be giving you Random IP's which it can connect to but dont work! Most BT hubs will give you one like 192.168.2.5 (Last digit is the Key) The last digit is the port you use and should really be between 1-20 so what you might find is the day it works your on a good IP (Internet Protocol) and the other it may give you one ending in 138! Which is bogus!! You can Manually Set your IP its not hard! Cant remember off the top of my head how to do it on Vista but Its in the properties of your Internet Connection!

Yeah I think I know where that is stored. So I can ask it to stick to a singular IP and it should accept that?

It's odd as my girlfriend's laptop is fine on connecting.

Have got the same problem with my bt hub can be sat in the same room with 2 laptops running one connects no prob other one in and out all the time.

i moved home and had pretty similar problems with my BT hub. I found the network, then would keep dropping and losing the network...after refreshing a few times would find it again, would all be ok for a while and then the same thing.

Finally rang them to complain and he talked me through changing to a different frequency (or something!) and have had zero problems since.

Seriously, just give them a buzz....

Same here. Problem solved. I think the hubs are configured to be set on a default to work on automatic frequency. Mine is now selected to a certain channel and it seems to work.

Think mine is more to do with my laptop will have to give them a ring and let them access mine again to try an find the problem.

[iMO] BT BROADBAND SUCKS :D

Not only is it slow it keeps dropping out on a regular hourly basis sometimes. Our BT VISION keeps doing the same and when you phone them they quote it will take 12 - 24 hours to get up to speed and it dont? So they get another call and you get the same old lies.

I want rid :mac1:

Hmmn .

Bt broadband.

The condensed version of my experience.

pay lots,

fail to work,

engineer visit,

stops working,

repeat above,

5 more times,

get charged for visit...... only to be told i couldn't use it upstairs.

Shite

shite shite service.

Now with orange.

lovely.

i have found that the new BT routers use the new N technology i have turned it off if i have problems and disconnections and just use it on B and G as N works on over 100mbs connection which nearly all laptops and pcs dont support yet... ow and vista is a big pile of ****! be glad when windows 7 comes out this year!!!

sometimes it also works better on WEP instead of WPA also channel 11 is generally works the best

you should all be with o2 broadband, comes top of almost all the comparison sites, and its cheap as chips, £7.50 for 8mb and £10 for 20mb BB, free support too if owt goes wrong, and its 24/7 in Leeds.
