Sounds exactly what happened to me on Thursday !

Mine is in with a local garage tomorrow for a new clutch. I hope it is just that and nothing more serious..

Hi Stew,

I'm still waiting to hear back from Dan as to exactly how much BHP that RPS Max was good for.

I'm hoping that it wasn't anything to do with the clutch pedal adjustment.

Thinking about it if you can still engage all gears, it may not be the clutch.

Have you had a change to get under it and have a look. It may be something like the carbon prop. If this is the case then the clutch would still allow you to engage the gear but would not put any power out to the rear diff.

Just for reference, this is the clutch you have on there at present http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_385&products_id=104

we no it has 531bhp

That should be at least 531bhp. it went off the dyno at 16psi but we mapped it on the road up to 19psi. So my guess is that it's pushing closer to 580-600bhp.

Hi mate,

As I mentioned I am waiting for Danny at DTA to get back to me, I left him a voice mail yesterday, but didn't expect him to be working on an easter weekend.

Apart form sitting here for 2 hours scanning the net, we can but wait and hope he has the answer :(

Just slips no drive jeff feels the same as me that it has torn the centre out but yet to have stripped and confirmed.

I see that you adjusted the clutch height a little while ago and to be truthful if you have a good pedal on these cars it shouldn't be adjusted as it can give you grief, the symptoms can range from slipping to not being able to change gears if not correctly adjusted.

With the extra force required on an uprated clutch, it puts a lot of pressure on the clutch fork and pivot bearing and if it isn't adjusted correctly the force is multiplied on those components :(

Well, for those interested and I think a lot will be when they read this, the lack of drive was due to the single piece carbon fibre propshaft broke!

 Did you get any pics ?...whereabouts did it break, any indication why... do you know who the supplier/manufacturer is ?

Yes got pics but left the camera at the workshop doh! I understand it to be a Z1 motorsports one.

Jeff

Z1 dont currently supply CF version, may have in the past though.

Yes well its SMW1 old zed, it took a while to put it all together so could have been bought a while ago but only recently used.

Jeff

May not be a Z1 unit then, a quick look in Stuarts gallery just says carbon fibre propshaft so until we know otherwise best to assume its from elsewhere.

Jeff

Did it fail at the joints to the U.J's or in the main CF shaft ?

The joints and the carbon tubing were all intact however the flange has an adapter tube at the gearbox end which fits inside of the carbon tube, easiest way to to explain is a tube inside of a tube, but here is the rub, no key way or locking method only GLUE well epoxy resin, once that broke the flange tube was free to spin inside of the carbon tube, very bizzare method

Jeff

:eek::eek:

Bit of Loctite and its fixed then

Mmm... quite! I would concider it important that any one with a similar propshaft have it checked, the power this particular zed has though may be a contributing factor but still seems a failure waiting to happen.
