Hi All ,

finally after 4 days ( which seemed like 4 months ) of waiting , i finally picked up my zed today . BUT ............

it has a number of issues , and i would really appreciate your help , as they hopefully will be simple fixes ( fuses etc ) , but the paranoia is getting the better of me ! .

first up :

its a jap import SWB manual twin turbo , and i initally presumed it had approx 55000 miles on the clock ( when i picked it up the odometer read 94000 , which i presumed was KM , this = approx 58000 miles ) but on the drive home the odometer changed every mile ! , 102 mile drive from liverpool to holyhead changed 102 on the odometer ! . the clocks have been converted to MPH , so is it possible that the odometer has been adjusted too ??

it says 92000 miles on the last MOT in Dec , but the bloke assured me that it should have been KM

could a uk TT dash have been fitted ?

there is a sticker on the belt cover to say replaced by zedworld.co.uk @ 52000 , km or miles ? ) in 2004 .

are they reputable and keep records of fittings against reg nums ? ( long shot ... )

the heated and folding mirrors dont work

the clock dosnt work

radio / ariel dosnt work

the cigarette lighter dosnt work

only 1 of the 4 interior lights work

the cruise control dosnt work

dash lights are tempremental

now the previous owner had a few gadgets and gizmos and greddy turbo timer ( holes in dash to prove this ) is it possible that fuses could have been removed / blown when he was removing / installing ? ( ive heard from the zed fairies that a dodgy install / removal can mess up lots of electricals )

it was imported in 2004 , and had 1 uk owner , im thinking of contacting him , ( Paul in Edinburgh ) as i only got log book and last MOT cert no history

havnt had a chance to get into the fuse box yet as im working night shift next 2 days , but was hoping for some reassurance from anybody who has had similar issues .

on a brighter note :

boost is sitting well to the left , and boosts well ( on the 300zx buying guide it shows boost guage of -14 0 14+ , buying1.gif however on mine it shows -7 0 7+ ?) no whines or moans from the turbos , shes already had her hand down the front of my pants and given me a little scare ! ( in the automotive sense ) and sounded fantastic going through the tunnels in wales with windows down on the way to holyhead port .

i drove about 400 miles in her today , and temp sat at middle , and oil pressure was good and just before the first needle to the left . ( got about 180 miles to £30 of petrol , which i thought was v good !

body is solid , rust free and apart from the rear spoiler which needs a touch up / repaint , generally good .

thanks in advance

Tim

Hello bud, right if your dash is reading -7 and +7 its jap gauges, the mirrors might be a fuse, the clocks ALWAYS fail, you can resolider the joints to make it work again, the radio might be a fuse or check the wiring behind it, the ariel will not work if the radio doesnt work. The cig lighter doesnt work, check the connections for rust and check the fuse.

Cruise control, right open your bonnet and check you have 2 throttle cables in the center, if you only have one it means that your cruise control has been removed. If on the other hand you have two, put your foot under the clutch / brake while drive at above 30MPH and press your cruise control then, that is also a common problem. Dash lights... What colour are they? If they are led check they are fully connected etc! Ill be on for a bit so post any more questions!

Hay bud... first check what Murt has suggested...

Zed world are registered traders on here and are very trust worthy... not many ppl would trust thier car any where else... as for records.. Ask Jeff TT or Jamie TT on here as they're the bosses! lol

Anythink else.. just ask away.. we are very friendly here........

Hi Tim,

All cambelts we have changed in the last 10 years wil be on our data base, also we always take a full photo journel of the work with mileage/kilometre recorded, did you get the laminated photo journel? if not let me have you reg number and can print you a copy set off and also check the other details you want.

Probably best to e-mail your reg. plate rather than show it on line,jeff@zedworld.co.uk

Cheers

Jeff

Congrats on the new purchase.

When Speedo is converted to MPH so is the odometer......so that 94k will have been in KM up to the point it was converted and then MPH. Most of it would therefore be in KM.

Import speedo Boost gauges reads -7 to 7 as it is in mmHG, rather than psi.

Fuses are located in the drivers footwell, behind fuse cover next to accelerator. Being an import the label wont make much sense, but this helps - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=66739

Its a very good idea to perform a bit of diagnostics on her just to check the vehicle sensors - http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html or http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/ECUdiagnostics.html You would be suprised at the amount of Z's running around in safety mode without the owners realising,

i seem to remember something about imports and cruise control only working above a certain speed, whereas uk cars will let you set the cruise at a much lower speed

in response to the replys so far :

murt , the dash is non LED just standard lights , and if it has been converted , im now thinking that it was not refitted correctly , hopefuly its not a nitemare to get behind the dash and tighten everything up ! . also , how do you mean put your foot under the clutch ? . i was cruising at 60 and had no feet on clutch or brake just accelerator and cruise didnt work , do a lot of owners remove the CC ? as to be honest i would prob only use it now and again .

jeff , thanks for the email addy , i will email you now , it inspires confidence that zedworld are onboard here !

legrath , im always a bit wary about going near the diognostics , incase i end up setting the car in some sort of shut down mode ! . is it recommended for someone with not a lot of diognostics experience ? . hopefully its not in safety boost as it did boost to just after the second to last needle mark to the right handside , and whilst taking off after a toll road in dublin ( for which i had to pay 12 quid ! ) is span in first , second , and third ! , if thats in safety , id need to stock up the boot with clean undies ! :)

Foot under the clutch means pull it up to make sure it's not pressing the cruise cancel switch in it's resting position.

And don't worry about diagnostics - you can't do anything bad! It just flashes error codes... or the all clear code = 55!!

Good luck with it!

ps .... legrath , where do you get the red Z badge for the front ?

Nothing to worry about with the diagnostics, your only forcing it to blink the error code light.

its from the 99spec, I think Zcentre may sell it, if not then Z1motorsports in the U.S
