Hi - girly alert, keep it simple please :) I've been travelling for a year so my Z has been sitting. It was fine before I left, have had it for 10 years. I want to get it back on the road and know I should change the oil and will need some new tyres. Have been told it's possible the plugs may be rusty too.

Is there anything else I should check/be aware of? Has anyone had probs as a result of leaving a Z standing?

Thank you :)

Hi Mikey - no it's been on a drive under a tarp

Hi Darkside - thanks for your advice, no it hasn't been turned over at all

Mineswas stood 3 years all be it in a garage workshop, changed the pads, tyres, oil and coolant now been running fine since December. It needs a few more bits like bushes and what not sorting but they were buggered before it was off the road. Just give it a thorough checking over.

Hi - thanks for your help guys :) Now for my next question - my car is about 2 miles away from home and needs bringing home to work on. Does anyone know anyone around north-west London/Middlesex who could help with any means to tow?

Is the car auto or manual ? as autos do not like being left standing. The clutch like plates in the bos dry out and then disintegrate when put back into use. As regards towing, Machine Mart do a sprung loaded towing bar for about £30 and a tow of 2 miles would be easy for most 2 litre cars.

Hi guys. Just wanted to let you know that all was OK with The Beast and it's now back on the road after a year off. I've never worked on cars before but managed to do most of the servicing myself with plenty of help from the other half (and lots of muttering trying to undo seized up screws - not much room under there is there? :D. Thanks as always for your help :)

Hi Gary - not much at all I'm glad to say - oil change, oil filter, air filters, new coolant, 2 number plate bulbs and 2 new tyres. Oh and clear the birds' nests and leaves out of the fan and radiator :D. Interior was a bit mouldy in places, but nothing that won't clean up.

So far I've only driven it to the MOT place since getting it running again, can't wait to give it a good run. And yes, def still feels great to drive after 10 years of ownership - I just know it's gonna feel really quick after a year of Asian buses :D
