Hi Guys

Just wanted some information and some help

Started the car up this morning and evrything was fine......drove for about 5 minutes to the nearest petrol station and filled her up.....came back and started her up and it seemed for a minute or two to smoke a little more then normal and i panicked and ran to the back and it cleared up but there was a slight hint of blue smoke from the exhaust.....iv had the pcv valves changed so it cant be that.......just wondering what it costs nowadays to get new turbos fitted

also what route to take and can it be done without taking the engine out......i dont mind spending money but im looking for reliability over huge power

Any help or information would be grateful

I dont want the engine coming out as im worried the bodykit may cause complications and the paint job aint cheap......and bloody hell that is alot of money......iv thrown money at the car and the turbos are pretty much the only thing that hasint been touched

Regarding my car....it seems im getting all sorts of offers for it but i cant see myself selling her......iv spent thousands to get her like this and shes unique but thanks

Speak to Aet-Turbos.co.uk, they will sort you out and give you advice on all aspects on standard and upgraded turbos and what the advantages are.

Hope this helps

Cheers for the help Chris.......i also wanna see what others have done on the forum and the paths they have taken.....will defianetly give them a call though

Thanks

well stock turbos are T25 so you can get them Refurbed (damage dependant but prob MAX 400quid each) and then fitted is defo Engine out Job! Left hand Turbo (passenger) can be reached from underneath but right is a nightmare so most people just tug the engine out! Or you could buy New Turbos but still... Engine out!

Pic of when mine was done with Pro's at the helm your kit or paint wont be affected

You will be fine (mine was fitted by Zedworld btw) but im sure another Specialist will do a good job!

when you go to EUROSPEC 2000 youll find out why ive requested you go there. very helpful have their own dyno and fix and mod and tune all cars.theyve do zeds i have personally seen a few there.

check out their website too, they are highly recomended on a few other forums too, they must have 30-40 cars in and out a week, also they have the fastest GTO and i think Subaru and FTO in Europe.

01483234879. ask for Ben.

if you go down to darren at D2 he will do both tubs with the engine in place. pm me if you wish to have his contact details. (also he is a zed specialist so no worries there)

jimmer did my tubbies when he rebuilt my engine along with many other happy customers... hes just up the m4 from you nr bristol. i went for the gt525's from z1 but the exchange rate was alot better when i purchased them. still a safer option imo, seen too many refurb nightmares on this forum and as its an engine out job, you dont want any hassles and the risk if it goes wrong is £££.

they are a nice mild upgrade for good, reliable power, im running mine on stock boost (9psi) and getting 365fwhp. otherwise, i would seriously consider just buying new t25's from z1 and getting jimmer to fit them. send him a pm on here for a price up of your particular requirements. sell your old turbos for some1 else to take the risk of refurb and recoup ome of the cost. alternatively you could always go down the route j1mmytt went down and refurb them yourself.

How??? does he get them out???

Have you checked how much oil you have in a little overfill can cause this, or the front pcv hoses, I presume andy changed them, if the disc in the hose has moved inside them it would cause smoke on startup!

Mark this could be the cause as i did slightly overfill the oil but not by alot....the weird thing is it didnt smoke first thing in the morning when i started her but literally five minutes later after resting at the petrol station forecourt.........ill ask Andy about the PCV hoses......Andy did mention that he sow a little blue smoke when he had it last on start up but he did say that it could have been due to the fact it was sitting around but it did seem to clear up

need to look into this further.....i cant risk not having the car for the summer......im hoping its not the turbos as id prefer not to spend the money but we shall have to see

thanks for all the other advice guys

No worries, if it is the turbos then they take ages to fail usually and I think you would have a summers worth of motoring, or maybe a year depending on mileage before you would have to worry?

The only thing i dont want is a cloud of smoke behind me when im driving around.....thats a tad embarassing

thanks for the advice

JFYI you can fill the car with slightly thicker oil and that should reduce the smoke!

Hi mate, well for a fixed price and gauranteed job look at http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzd.html (half a page down)

They can and certainly do look after every zed that comes in a yep even those with 20K plus thrown at them :)

Check out the new workshop http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzaj.html

However before they went down that route, they would actually confirm that they are satisfied the turbos's are knackered and it's not something else.

A long drive to find out am sure, but it may save you a bloody big bill to pay in the long run.

Oh and from my experience when turbo's are gone, it smokes on idle when the engines warm or hot and usually after boosting and suddenly taking your foot of the gas, a plume of smoke should come out the exhausts.

Cheers Smithy......if the turbos are gone i just wanna know what turbos people tend to go for......i want reliability over anything else but i dont wanna go for the standard set up.....depends on cost though really

Well stock is actually a t22b turbo and the most common upgrade is a hybrid T25, hang on i posted this before, yep here yer go (http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=123368

I done a couple of posts in there mate. Point i was making, expect the worst cost, but deffo have it checked out properly, that way if it's summit else and it's easy, you'll be soooooo pleased at having saved a load of dosh ;)

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

ive has that since november 2008 and i have to agree at the lights i look straight ahead only lol

Just a quicky .

you can most definately replace the turbo's with the engine still in the car.

Why would you want to do that? halve jobs are the cause of many headaches on these cars.

Jeff TT

The reason for doing the turbo's on the car is you dont disturb much. connectors hoses etc arnt disconnected and thus less chance of running into other problems. plus it saves time.

Sounds pretty good mate, obviously though engine out means any other cheap jobs can be done more easily like various by passes etc. But how long does it take you on aveage with an engine in ?

The guy who partnered Hiteq in Wigan used to do it with the engine in for the same reasons, but it still took around the same time for him.:)

cheers

I can see why on a DIY basis maybe doing it to save money and time but in the long run the addition jobs that can be done easily with the engine out makes doing it any other way less cost effective and more likely to have issues crop up, even more so in a professional workshop with warranty issues to content with then its even more important to get the complete job done properly not just a quick one.
