Hey folks,

First off, thanks to the Mods for giving this the ok!

Right, for those that don't already know, I have a band called "This Burning Age" and we're about to release our debut album called "A Muzzle For The Masses".

To give you a bit of background history, "This Burning Age" started off as my own project. I spent a year in the studio of new Wolverhampton based producer James Brede working on the album. I wrote all the tracks and everything you hear, be it guitars, bass, drums, vox or synths were played or sung by myself and I co-produced the album.

At that point I was very much a "one man band" but, having been involved with bands in the past and having enjoyed playing within the band dynamic with the kick you get that performing live brings, I set about gathering together friends and fellow musicians to allow me to take the music on the road. Since playing together, the "one man band" ethos has slowly died away as we all gelled so well...it became very apparent that we were now a proper band in our own right. Although I still write the majority of the tracks (we have enough material for at least 2 more albums!) I now also co-write with Anth and Russ, our guitarist and bassist respectively, and our second album will be recorded as a band proper rather than just me locked away in a studio!

However, the DIY ethos is something that is still very much alive and kicking as shown by me taking on the album art and design (I'm an artist and photographer in my "normal" life), tackling getting it Mastered, Pressed and Released and also the task of designing our own bespoke website (although it needs a few tweaks the more or less finished product can now be found here if you find you have a moment to look in: http://www.thisburningage.com Again, all the graphics, animation and images were done by me with the coding written by a chap to whom I am eternally grateful as I'm a borderline neo-Luddite when it comes to things like that! try to ignore the music/FX in the intro, they're not quite sync'd yet!).

As well as our official site you can also find us on: http://www.myspace.com/thisburningage On our page you'll also find 2 additional tracks, a demo of a new song "Nevermore" which has been shortlisted for the second album and a live acoustic version of "Repeat To Fade" (there's also some live videos for your amusement ;)).

Things seem to have taken a trip into bizarro world recently...and all in a very good way:

1. Kerrang DJ Emma Scott saw us live at one of our gigs and offered us the chance to open for alt/rock leg-ends "Hundred Reasons" at the Birmingham O2 Academy 2 on March 29th (Tickets currently available from Ticketweb, Ticketmaster, Seetickets.com, Gigantic.com and Swordfish Records in Birmingham if you prefer an over the counter purchase!).

2. To top that we're now also being played every week on the Kerrang RAW show (we were an astonishing 9th on the playlist last Saturday! :D ).

3. But the biggest thing has to be the call from Universal Music. Yep, one of the biggest labels in the world has got in touch with us. Apparently one of their scouts heard the album and loved it. He apparently passed it on to the Head Scout for Universal UK and...he loved it. It may not happen so I'm trying not to get too excited but things are certainly afoot in that department shall we say...

So, until we're picked up by a major industry player, our entirely self-released (and self-funded by me...arrrgh!) album, "A Muzzle For The Masses" will soon be ready for release in CD Digipak, Digital Download and Special Edition CD Digipak formats.

EDIT 01/09/09

Essentially this is a thread for those who would like to order a copy of the album in "standard" CD Digipak or the "Special Edition" CD Digipak. The standard album comes un-numbered but with booklet and signed (I'm only selling signed copies within this club and one other car club, no where else).

344tugk.jpg

There are 100 copies of the Special Edition available to buy...here's the text from my Bigcartel internet shop:

There are 100 copies in Digipak format, each one individually numbered. Every copy is signed and includes a 6 page, full colour, roll-fold booklet.

These Special Editions also come with a This Burning Guitar Pick, 3 Badges, a signed A3 This Burning Age Promo Poster and a very special custom designed This Burning Age "Zener Test" Card onto which is printed a code which can be redeemed in the Download section of our official website: http://www.thisburningage.com to claim a free non-album track. Both this card and the download track will not be available to buy anywhere else.

The designs (featured below, not to scale) are now at the printers and all being well this Special Edition merchandise is on schedule to be with me at the beginning of next week:

For those that miss the days when getting an album was more than just keying in your card details and hearing a single mp3 track taken out of context...when buying an album and particularly a special edition version was a great experience, not just because of the music therein, but because of the artwork and the feeling you got from it...that you had purchased something genuinely special that the artist cared about...well, I hope I've been able to put some of that back with this release.

Because of these alterations I've had to alter the price slightly.

The standard album can still be purchased for £7 (+ £1.50 P&P UK delivery) however the Special Edition will now be for sale at £9 (+ £1.50 P&P).

So, to all those that registered their interest, if this price change isn't ok, it's no problem, just post here and I'll remove your name. If, however, you'd still like to buy one, if you could state whether you'd like a "standard" copy or a "Special Edition" copy, I'll add you to the appropriate list below.

I'll be contacting you all via PM with the Paypal details this week with a view to shipping shortly afterwards.

Thanks to everyone who's supported me through all this...it's genuinely very much appreciated :)

Cheers,

Leigh.

Hi Leigh. You can put me down for one. Might have it in time for it to be the first CD to play on a good set of speakers that i got for the car last year and never even opened the box yet. :)

Cheers,

Colm

Getting a wee bit closer to the final date for pressing the album (hurrah!) so....anymore for anymore? :D ;)

Right! We have announcements! :D

The album is currently being "processed" so I'll have a firm date (it'll be in June I know that much :wack: ;)) for everyone very soon now.

But the news that I think people will like is that the album will now be sold for £7, so £1 less than previously thought. It means it's going to take me longer to recoup the money spent on getting it finished but, after weighing everything up, I didn't feel comfortable charging £8. In these times of digital downloads, buying a physical product is becoming something of an anomaly, and when people do buy one, it's often online from uber-low priced Chinese stockists that can afford to undercut everyone else by vast amounts.

I "could've" driven the price down by releasing it in a standard Jewel Case, with 'orrible black plastic CD tray and no booklet but tbh I couldn't bring myself to do it. Instead I went for Digipak format (what I think is the nicest way to package an album), a clear tray with art work designed to be viewed through it (ie, lift up the CD and you'll see it! :D) and a 6 page rollfold booklet...I just hope you guys feel the same way and that it's been worth it. :)

The other news is that I can now "reveal" (in a hopefully non-Paul Daniels way) the album cover. All of the album design/photography etc has been done by lil'ol' me so please be gentle...lol! :wack: ;)

The final piece of news is that we now have a Last FM page (which, I should add, was originally started by good friend and fan of the band, Diane, otherwise known as "emero" :)). It's taken a bit of getting used to as it's more like an audio version of Wikipedia rather than MySpace but it's great when you get into it. Take a look here, sign up and friend us/become a "listener" if you can: http://www.last.fm/music/This+Burning+Age

:)

Thought I'd be getting a free copy if I get that deal sorted out for ya LOL :D

Hey Tony. I'm still planning on doing the special editions but I'm having to put them on hold for a bit as I literally have no money left for materials to make them! :( Getting the album has truly cleaned me out and as I'm covering all the costs it's crucified me to be honest. The only funds I have left are those set aside for other band things like hosting the website, getting a PO Box, buying another lot of badges and guitar picks to sell etc and the money I set aside about a year ago to finish my V8 Z and tbh, I don't know how I've resisted dipping into those! I've literally gambled everything on this album and the band as a whole and if things don't take off...well, I'm trying not to think about it! :) There WILL be a special edition but I'm going to have to sell some paintings before I can get them out the door! :) (I'm currently working on a series of Z paintings...been talking about doing it for an age and now I've finally got my skinny white ass into gear, lol! Fingers crossed I'll have the first finished piece done and dusted by next month...I haven't mentioned anything as I didn't want to break any of the rules as the Mods have been very kind already letting me sell the album here, but a quick search on t'interweb of the usual suspects should find them when they're done! :))

Was planning on a more definate announcement tonight but things have got delayed somewhat. I was hoping to say that I'd received £450 from the sale of my lightweight 18" Volks alloys this evening, the money I needed to pay off the final installment for the album BUT, the buyer has had to put off coming over till tomorrow or Saturday...

So...

...despite this slight set back, it looks like we're at the final hurdle folks :D If you want a signed copy of the album (to flog on Ebay when I'm famous), including one of our specially branded, heavy gauge guitar picks (designed by moi) which are only being included with the albums as a one time offer for those that sign up on this thread (also to flog on Ebay :D) then put your name down here! The album, supplied in luuuverly Digipak form (again, designed by lil'ol me), and will only cost £7+postage (hopefully a price that's right for everyone :)).

So if you feel like supporting your friendly neighbourhood, impoverished, shaven-headed, anarcho-capitalist song-writer...post your name here! :wack: :D ;)

Do we get the guitar pick with the super duper expensive version too please? :D

Hadn't really thought about it Nick! The answer is...er, yep! :D

Sounding goodStick me down for a copy Bud

Thanks man, glad you like it and every purchase is definately very much appreciated!

It's all being ploughed back into the music so I can keep playing live and put another album out next year. I've got 5 definates already chosen (including "Nevermore" which is on the MySpace page in it's rough demo version form):

1. "Nothing" (which we play live now...a fast and loud screamer to kickstart the set that barrels its way in at 170bpm :D)

2. "Brave Nu World" (spelling is on purpose...political and social commentary mode firmly switched to the ON position ;))

3. "Guess" (working title...another 160bpm screamer)

4. "Conceal" (still needs work but getting there...one of my favorites at the moment)

and "Nevermore" at 5. as mentioned above (piano, electro and big orchestral strings).

I'm this far away from finishing the (albeit very modest!) studio...all the equipment is now in situ, just need to buy a couple more 12u racks and finalising the acoustic treatment (all DIY and on an extremely tight budget so it's taken a while!)...so from now on, I no longer have to rely on using anyone elses recording space, which I have to say is a massive relief. :)

We've also just taken on Management so, fingers crossed, things are on their way...BTW, if anyone does the Twitter thing, you can find my inane ramblings about life (and occasionally music ;)) here: http://twitter.com/thisburningage

No need to confirm again chap, just seeing if there are any more takers :)

As before, I don't think it's fair to ask for money till I get a confirmed date from the pressing plant but, as soon as I do, I'll be posting up/emailing everyone with details for payment and postage! :) Thanks again for supporting the cause though Dave! :D

Bit of an announcement...well two actually!

Thanks to the MASSIVE help of fellow Zedder Jaktheruby, the album art is pretty much all wrapped up so, I just need to approve the pdf proof when they send it, settle the balance and then then I should be getting a date for production shortly after! Woo-hoo! :D

The second bit of news is a wee bit stranger...I've had confirmation that an hour and a half ago Trent Reznor was personally handed a USB key containing all the tracks off the album (plus press photos etc) before his gig tonight in Dusseldorf. As far as getting proactive on the promotion front goes...all stops can now be considered firmly pulled out! :D :D :D
