I'm refurbing calipers at the moment. Standard original ones. I'm going to get new discs all round most likely grooved & drilled. The important thing is that i'm going to put larger fronts on with a relocation bracket.

So on the website dbpower I see various larger discs BUT also I see larger pads for standard calipers to be used only in conjunction with a larger disc. Makes sense to me as the larger pad will cover the width of the discs contact surface.

Now I am stuck with choosing pads. I was going to just get ebc turbo groove discs with the new larger redstuff pads, job done. But I see mixed reviews about redstuff. So below I break down what I have read so far with questions:

My car will not be going on the track, just errmm spirited driving!

EBC Redstuff.

Larger pad size availible.

£170 for all corners.

Mixed reviews, most old post say they have no cold stopping! Yet new posts refering to the new updated compound say they are fine/great/etc?

Comes with shims & no word about squeeling?

Ferodo ds2500:

Larger pad size availible.

Most expensive. BUT I cannot tell if rear pads are available.

Apparently very dusty & squeeels.

Best performance of all?

Comes with own shims?

Porterfield:

Cost between redstuff and ferodo

Excellent performance.

Comes with own shims?

Can't tell if larger front is available.

Hawk:

Have not found out much but similar to porterfields?

So I am lost at the moment. Which pads!?

i have used redstuff before and found they had seriusly low brake dust, i had white wheels at the time and they were never dirty.

The stopping power was good and progressive but they have been known to crack old discs so should be cautious if not upgrading.

They do have poor cold stopping which can be a pain in the morning but they never squeel

DS2500 nothing else touchs them in comparison, rears not available!

Larger pad size is not an issue unless it is lengthwise, as the standard pad is too thick for the larger disc anyway and will overhang!

do people that are running ds2500 find that they squeel, this is the next thing on my todo list, and stopping the squeel i get from my current pads is most important.

scary - I was bout to post asking which pads and just seen this thread.

Its between the 4 for me and I cant decide - DS2500, porterfields, EBC Green or EBC Red.

Im running standard calipers, discs etc.

Thinking of going greenstuff but it says suitable for up to 200hp and red should be used above that?

I had porterfields on mine (R33 calipers) they squeel like a pig. Been told that DS2500 are the top brakes you can get. Just sold the ones I had to the new owner so I guess he will be able to tell you which ones are better between the two.

Isnt the squeal caused by not shimming? I was hoping some copperease on the backs would sort out any possible probs.

Shimming helps, breaking in the pads correctly helps, but how you stop the car makes a difference, if you are hard on the brakes there is less squealing than stopping slowly.
