Was shocked today at prices they charge for fitting tyres. I don't need valves so it's straight fitting of my wheels and tyres and then balancing, cheapest I got was £46. One local place wanted £80 for cash so as I was on the phone, told him I'd be there in ten minutes  lol. I remember when it used to be a fiver a wheel lol

Also, what's the score with filling with nitrogen? Is it to do with there's no difference between cold/warm temps? What happens if a tyre needs pumping up, I take it you can't get your compressor out and stick some air in there?

I know it's a joke. I get a mate of mine to do mine as he works in kwikfit (not the brightest lol).

The nitrogen is a much bigger molecule than oxygen and because it's a much higher concentration than your normal compressed air, the leakage rate on it is much lower.

Also nitrogen works much better as a spring, so prevent wheel deformation under loading, we use it as a gas spring on the switchgear, charge it up to 120 bar, it shifts a 150kg mech in less than a couple of miliseconds. :D

I just don't get how they can justify the price, can't be more than 5 minutes or so a wheel

I remember being quoted £38 for a puncture repair and nearly pissed myself laughing.

£5 and NO MORE!

£13.50 we charge for a puncture and balance, £38

Its only £5 hear all balanced and the old tyre disposed of

the fitters still live in caves though up north so a fiver will pay for flints and mammoth hair clothing for ages :mac1:

cost me 45 to fit and balance my wheels, no vavles no tyres.. thought it was a rip off.... but what you gonna do?? you have to have them.....lol

i pay i fiver aswell no recipt but who wants 1 really ???

It's just because tyre retailers are suffering now that so many people buy their tyres over the 'net.

They are not getting their mark-up so they claw back their losses by charging you a fortune to fit tyres you have purchased elsewhere;)

There may be some honest folks out there still charging a few £££s for cash.

In the end I find it less hassle to buy tyres on the net fully fitted from the likes of Etyres or Event Mobile Tyres. They also come to your home or work which saves you spending a Saturday morning waiting in a smelly tyre fitter's waiting room...........

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I do understand that everywhere is struggling to make money but it's no excuse to rip people off :( at the end of the day if they were reasonable they would have got my money and I wouldn't bother looking anywhere else. By quoting stupid prices they get nothing.

Meht are you serious mate? I'd rather have someone who'd take care of my wheels too as they're refurished and not a mark on them. Only thing is do you use the stick on weights rather than the hammer in ones?

Yep I'm serious:cool: I've got both, stick on and the other ones
