Those are spokeslike connections to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!'

These tires are airless.

They are scheduled to be on the market soon.

Bad news for law enforcement as spike strips will not work on these.

Think of the impact on existing technology:

A. no more air valves

B. no more air compressors

C. no more flat tires

D. no more puncture repairs

E. no more jacks or spares required

Yeah they dont seem to look right at all, what a bout tyre roll? lol

Read about these last summer, and it said that the finished wheel would more than likely have conventional looking side walls.

yep, seen them years ago, those pics are not recient, they will have walls on the tyres when they start producing them, they just made them like that to demonstrate how they worked

I think this has been posted already. Still pretty impressive stuff if they are ok for the handling of your car etc...

i think they look quite cool in motion!

reminds me of bicycle wheels..

i think its the way ahead... though id say that the retail versions will have an enclosed tyre wall to make it look more... erm... tyrey? also, the prototype versions shown will have to push the boundaries further in order to get some lower profile version as they look silly!
